No School Wednesday

I cannot remember the NYC DOE ever canceling school preemptively, while the sun is shining. This Snowmageddon thing better really happen now.

  • woot! Kids are super excited for a proper snow day.
  • Teachers are excited about the snow day.
  • I'm excited for the snow day and I still have to go to work.
  • Awesome! I think I'll use the opportunity to bring the kids to a bar in their double-wide stroller. And I can let the dog poop into the magical eraser snow and not need to pick up! What a country!

    ;)

    Happy snow everyone!

the rumor i heard was that last year when they canceled very last minute (around 6am-ish), bloomberg, klein, et al got slammed because it was so late it left many parents without childcare coverage. seeing as so many children here have parents/guardians that work, the goal (from what i heard) was to give people some more time to make arrangements.

regardless, i hope we get some SERIOUS snow!
  • First time in 10 years that my company in Manhattan has closed the office in advance because of snow!
    Yay for snow days!
  • i still have school tomorrow :(

Me, too : / Luckily my class isn't until 4pm, but if they do cancel they will wait until I'm already on the train for my long commute there, to email and tell us.
  • ugh im due in at 8
  • I'm building a snow fort and packing snowballs for the big fight later in the schoolyard
  • what a lame 'blizzard' this one turned out to be. They could have kept the schools open. I hear they'll be open tomorrow.
  • people seem to think snow days are just days off to let kids play and sleep in.
snow days are to help keep kids/parents/teachers SAFE on the streets. SO MANY teachers drive to their jobs to teach so asking them to risk their lives is terrible. I'm so glad today was a snow day to keep kids and adults safe -- and yes, schools are open tomorrow.
  • ^um, did you actually try walking anywhere?

we had grand sledding plans at 1 o'clock, but DAMN, once we were outside trying to get around, those turned into museum plans in a hurry. and then we took the subway home from the museum, even though it was only a few blocks.
  • sweat tea, looks like we posted at the same time -- i assume the arrows are for bluecat.
  • I was out around 1pm for lunch. Maybe it was different in the slope, but it was pretty tame in Manhattan. I walked around in my regular shoes, didn't bother to put boots on. Other than a few messy curbs there really wasn't much snow going on. Traffic light but moving easy.
