Hotel Recommendations? — Brooklynian

Hotel Recommendations?

Hello!

I'm planning to visit friends in NYC in late March. Tired of couch-surfing, I've been toying with the idea of renting a hotel. Any recommendations for a decent, somewhat affordable hotel?

My friends are scattered all over Manhattan, but there are a few in Park Slope, Clinton Hill, and Cobble Hill. To save some money and get a nicer feel for Brooklyn, I was hoping to stay in a neighborhood convenient to those spots and easily accessible from Manhattan. Public transit would be great, but I'm ok with $10 cab rides here and there.

I'll also be traveling solo and won't need much in the way of food (I'll probably eat out with friends most of the time). My budget for a room is $100-$200 a night.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

  • $100 a night in NYC is impossible. It will definitely be closer to $200 per night. You can try Hotel Le Bleu on 4th Avenue they may have some deals. I would also check quikbook.com. If you're planning to come in late March that is prime tourist season because it's when a lot of kids have Spring Break and because people visit for the Easter/Passover holidays so I would recommend that you get your reservations in sooner rather than later.
  • I know people who have stayed in this Comfort Inn.

Not sure of prices, but probably higher than $100 a night.

Neighborhood is a little desolate, but it's not far from many subways.
  • Wasn't sure from your post if you were looking to stay in Brooklyn, but there's lots of b+b s available in Brooklyn in that range.

Check out Victorian Flatbush. It's further into Brooklyn than Park Slope, but you're on the Q line, which runs express into the city, so it's 30 min to Lower Manhattan on the Q. The Q also pops you over to the North Slope or Ft. Greene quickly. http://bedandbreakfastsofvictorianbrooklyn.com/index.htm

As a sample... Rugby Gardens is $150/night. That's also right off Cortelyou Road with some nice eateries + bars. http://rugbygardens.googlepages.com/

I also saw this one in Park Slope: http://www.thestratfordmanor.com/rooms.html
    Garden Guest Room is $175/night.
  • Also, you may get a better deal on hotels going through priceline than with posted prices. Determine where you think you want to stay then priceline a room for 30-40% off. See what happens, you may luck out.
  • hotel le bleu is very nice to stay at.
But I would haggle with them if I were you. They are a bit pricey, but the rooms are very nice.

Right in Park slope and an easy 10 - 15 min ride into the city.
  • Thanks for the tips! I wasn't banking on $100 a night (but wouldn't that be nice?). Right now, I think I will stay in Brooklyn and B&Bs are definitely up my alley. If I'm gonna stay in Brooklyn, then I'd prefer a place in PS, Cobble or Clinton Hill.

    Thanks again!
  • If you don't want brooklyn, I've had friends stay here:

    http://www.thepodhotel.com/

$65 a night if you share a bathroom!
  • Subject: prospect vacation rentals

    Go to :
    prospectvacationrentals.com

they have a studio for $85 a night, with all the amenities.

People I know have rented it for months at a time.

It is located on Lincoln Place
  • the holiday inn on union street (perfect access for park slope) reported will do good deals if you name your own price on priceline, even under $100 for midweek.
  • I'm in need some serious R&R this year, so I might even take the plunge and go for something fancy like Hotel Le Bleu. I was really intrigued by the Pod Hotel though! What a fascinating concept! Keep these awesome suggestions coming! Thanks so much.
  • Holiday in is full of rats!
  • Nu Hotel on Smith
  • Hey there.

Jane hotel is my all time favorite NYC crash pad. I usually book it on Quikbook.com for less then $100 http://www.quikbook.com/getprofile.asp?Code=4222

Two other spots where I had luck are Hotel Thirty Thirty & Park 79.

I've always had bad luck with hostels.
  • I just put some guests up at Hotel Le Bleu on 4th Ave, and it was fantastic. The price was right, the service was spot on and the hotel itself was impeccable, gorgeous and comfortable. I was quite surprised at how nice it was. The guests enjoyed the amenities. The location was not too bad--near the F, M and R.

They have a sister property in Williamsburg I am keeping in mind for next time--Hotel Jolie I think.
