Home on 5th ave. Is it good? worth the price? any extras like appetizers there (spring rolls and such)

Yeah, I know the back ground on the owner, but want to hear if any of you liked it. I personally love Nicky's and Bah Xuen (or however you spell it in SP)

  • yes, today!
    :D
I like Home - tasted classic and grilled pork, both ordered spicy, each $6
    good baguette
I'd say they're better or equal to Nicky's on Atlantic,
yet not as sublimely delicious (or cheap) as Ba Xuyên in Sunset Park

They have green papaya salad on the menu! Excited to try that next time.
The summer rolls looked good - didn't try them.
They make a tofu bánh mì for the vegtarians, didn't try that either.
They also make a bunch of smoothies, Viet coffee, Thai Iced Tea, Bubble Tea, other drinks. (Now I'm just reading off the menu...)
  • I hope the next Vietnamese would-be restauranteur realizes that a place in Prospect Heights would be a better bet than a 4th place in Park Slope!

For your sake, I hope so. For me, Home is in the right location at Fifth Ave and 4/5 Streets - South Slope/7th Ave is just far enough away that I've never been - might as well go to Sunset Park.

The menu says Free Delivery, $10 minimum...maybe you can talk them into crossing Flatbush.

  • a 4th place is already opening up in park slope...

there's a sign up next to the store matter at president and 5th avenue which says bahn mi and bubble tea coming soon...
  • surpisingly, their vermicelli salad--with grilled chicken in particular, is not bad at all, in fact, it's the closest thing to a proper Vietnamese bun i can find locally==I would NOT recommend the shredded chicken (much less tasty but perhaps lower in oil)

What's the background on the owner?
  • LTS, the background drama is laid out in that VV blog Mami linked to...
  • oh, thanks, read the article, funny
  • Home has a sardine bahn mi sandwich on their menu that I want to try. I've gotten spoiled by Num Pang near Union Sq though, Hanco's is so bland to me now.
  • Tastes like every other bahn mi place in the Slope. Decent but not spectacular.
