The Two Bootsies and the multimillion $ brownst-owners?
Eh, the young can walk far distances, in my experience.
  • Carmen, I'll send you a PM

    Tell me more about this
  • LTS, she's already on the tour right now, PM her maybe there's another one next week?
  • A few weeks ago I saw people lined up by TJs for an underground tour, wonder if it's the same thing? Will PM her

Guess mougar and I posted at the same time, thanks for the link
  • Just got home, it is indeed outside trader joes. Im about to run out but I will post info later, its twice a month and is $15 a person. Its about 2 hours long and it ruled!!
  • ok yes Moug posted the right link. Additional info:
the tours are every two weeks or so but call early for reservations. This was our third time trying to make a tour and we reserved 3.5 weeks ago.
There are about 100 people on each tour so it takes a while for everyone to get down the manhole (yes, manhole). You could potentially be in line for 30 minutes while people enter. Dress warmly
Its about 30 degrees warmer down there so it was comfortable today, although we froze waiting about 45 minutes in line
The tour is really informative- the guide (who also discovered the tunnel in the 80s) goes through the entire politically corrupt history of the LIRR and how the tunnel got closed, then tells the story of how he found the tunnel for himself

Its pretty damn neat. Id recommend.

They serve 'Pub Food' with extra thought and care, as well as some casual 'finer' cuisine. Maybe a Gastro-Pub, whatever that is?

The nabe needs more classy but casual pubs. We have a ton of hipster dives and scene-ey bars, but virtually no adult, casual, classic pubs. Johnny Mack's is very close to that ideal, but tends a little younger (which is OK).
it opened today! thank God for a real neighborhood joint
  • dw438 wrote: thank God for a real neighborhood joint
At those prices I wouldn't call it a neighborhood "joint".
  • ^Haven't seen the prices, but aren't they about the same as any other place around here.?
  • A restaurant could give its food away for free and someone here will complain that the prices are too high.
  • OK, just looked at the menu for their place on 8th avenue, prices seem totally normal to me for around here, don't understand why the snotty comment
  • Went last night.
I will give them a pass for the first night and try again in a week or so.
The good: nothing really but the dessert menu looked tasty.
The bad: seemed like there was no heat (not good on a freezing night); wayyyy too bright (like really bright); feels like an apartment when you first move into it and nothing is there yet although I am not sure anything else is coming – just big and barren and bright and cold; mainly 60 yr old men idling around the bar.

It was all really weird. Like I said though, i will chalk it up to first night kinks – I really want this place to be good!

Left and went across the the street to the new wine bar, which I love and is basically the exact opposite – cozy, dark, good crowd for a Monday night
  • Seriously Burns? You went on the very first night they opened and then you come here to complain about it? Very nice of you to be willing to wait a WHOLE WEEK for them to iron out the kinks. From what I can tell, you did not like the lighting, decor and clientell. Did you even order any food or drinks?

I have no problems with an honest review if the place does heavy marketing and makes a big deal about attracting people. But in this case, it seems that it was a very soft opening, and it is only fair to give them at least a couple of weeks to get their act together.

On a side note, I'm happy to hear that the Snooky's crowd have found a new home.
  • How could nothing have been good? Other than it being too bright and all, did you have any food?
  • Cool...I'm checking this place out this weekend. This part of 7th needs more bars.
  • Its not really a complaint. I think it could be a perfect fit here in the neighborhood.
The whole thing was wrong last night and I hope they work it out.
And no, we left after 10-15 minutes bc it was freezing and the waitress gave us menus and never came back.
I didn’t realize if they don’t do crazy advertising then you cant post about your experience, sorry.
  • It has nothing to do with crazy advertising, you just gave a very odd, random review IMO. You talk about lighting and cold and that was it. You didn't order food or drink, so, I find it a bit odd for you to say that nothing was good there.
  • thats true - it was very odd in there
  • Hooray, another place to eat hamburgers in Park Slope.
  • Burns wrote: thats true - it was very odd in there
because it was brightly lit and people over 50 dared to go out? LOL
  • have you seen people over 50 in that light - not a good combo
  • Burns wrote: have you seen people over 50 in that light - not a good combo
They did not seem to mind the cold. But thanks for sticking you head in here. Your views are very informative and helpful.

Where's Veets when we need her?
  • 50 year olds in bars! and we thought the stroller moms were a problem.
There is going to be an interesting conflict for parking spaces , the strollers vs the walkers.

Maybe they'll enforce rules similar to Double Windsor, no one under 21 after 5 pm and no one over 50 after 8 pm.
  • Yes, how dare we expect the local childless 20 somethings to have to actually dine with people older than them? Disgraceful! Don't people over 50 know they are supposed to be in old age homes and not in restaurants disturbing Burns' meal that he didn't even order?

Veets must be locked up in her house cause we all know she is really old! LMAO
