Subject: good tailor for women's suits in the nabe?

i don't need anything major done, but i want whoever does it not to ruin a suit that took 15 f*ing hours to find, even with doublediamond's exceptionally gracious and patient help.

and here i must vent: women should not ever have to wear suits. we already have a plethora of miserable garments that men never have to think about. it is a cruel irony that a suit, so simple and easy for carriers of the Y chromosome, is such hell for women. imho.

    At least you never have to wear a tie. It's literally like a noose around the neck, serves absolutely no purpose, and yet is considered absolutely mandatory for anything remotely formal.

    It's a neighborhood or so over, but Victor at One Stop tailoring on Court Street & 4th Pl. has done a great job on my (men's) suits in the past. You'll find a whole lot of endorsements for him if you look on the Google machine.

    Seconding One Stop - They've done great work for me on a couple of different garments (alterations on a new suit, repairs to a 50 year-old topcoat), with great results.

    There's a lady on PPW between Prospect and 17th who did a really good job on my coat. My mom can sew really well and thought the zipper was beyond repair. I hear she does great work on suits and jeans as well and her price was very fair

    Flexi is talking about Agnes and she is the best. She basically had to remake a bridesmaid dress for me and her construction/sewing was much better than the dress originally had.

    Hey, Flexi and OQ, is Agnes at the dry cleaners ? Thats my hood so this is good to know.

    Just want to make a small point, that tailoring for a suit and dressmaking are totally different skills, from a technical standpoint. So a person can be great at one and have no knowledge of the other. For a suit, better go to someone who specializes in them.
    I'm in fashion, so thats how I know. :D

    I think Agnes does dry cleaning, but it's more of an afterthought. Her main gig is tailoring. Her store is a tailoring shop......as opposed to a dry cleaning shop that does tailoring.

    As for the skills.......I can't even sew on a button, so I have no idea, but I have heard raves re: her tailoring of jeans and dress pants

    Anyone have a name for Agnes' place of biz? I'm just looking for her hours so I don't schlep my suit over there and find it closed.
