yamato sushi under new management?

has anyone been to yamato sushi (7th ave and 1st street) since it re-opened after renovation? the menu has changed (some sad deletions -- like the lover's roll -- and interesting additions -- dim sum), and some of the staff are new.

overall not as good as before, we thought. any intel on why the renovation, whether there's a new owner, etc?

  • They also own Chance on Smith Street, and my understanding was that they were integrating the 2 menus.
  • I've been there. The food was great, but the service was extremely slow. And I don't get the renovation at all. I don't understand why they fixed something that wasn't broken. It looked great before, and it's not like they've gained any new seats. The amount of space seems about the same, although it's changed around (the sushi bar is now parallel to the back wall, facing you as you walk in). I think aesthetically the renovation was a wash, but my big complaint is that the sushi counter is gone! I used to love sitting there instead of at a table.
  • Haven't been since the reno, but, I agree, why reno that place? Sucks they took the sushi bar away.
  • yamato isn't amazing anyway.

go to oshima on 7th avenue between berkeley and lincoln. way better.
  • We haven't gone to Yamato in ages, we go to Jpan
