Now that's a real snazzy hat!
  • the sign is up at the Johnny Macks place on 7. It looks nice.
  • Not a new place, but Get Fresh seems to have recently updated their menus and the take-out menu looks awesome! I haven't eaten there in a while but everything we've had has been fantastic. I'm excited that they have a new delivery menu.

    Tacos with handmade tortillas, anyone?

I've had 3 excellent meals at Get Fresh in the last couple of months. Their food is excellent across the board, no misses on anything! The fact that it is BYOB makes it one of the best bargains in the hood. 2 apps, 1 entree, 1 dessert, $4 corkage and tip for around $60. Totally worth it.

I noticed that someone put a handwritten sign up on sp Vino this morning that said: "NO illegal sign extension please!?" .....hahhaha.
  • get fresh table and market and lot 2 are the two best kept secrets in park slope...

sounds as though they are becoming less and less a secret, which is great by me cause i want to see them prosper!

they are both excellent, and i'm very excited about get fresh starting to deliver now.
  • The liquor store that is supposedly reopening on 5th near 8th St had some activity last night. I saw a guy carrying a few cases of booze in and peeked inside. It looked really different and there were shelves up but not much stock, but stock is hopefully a sign that it is opening soon.

5th Ave and 10th St, where there was shortly a gallery, is changing. It kind of looks like it will be a liquor store. Anyone know?
  • i saw a crew working today inside the former park slope farm grocery on 7th ave between prez & union. has anyone heard what's going-in there?
  • someone mentioned pizza somewhere, prezst.

    not sure, though.
  • I checked out the permits posted last night, and it looks like they're putting in a bagel shop.

Which is not the most original thing, in this neighborhood, but I guess if they want to take on La Bagel Delight they can.
  • There is going to be a bagel shop a block away from la Bagel? Why doesn't that sound like a good move to me?
  • Right? Seems a little misguided.

On the other hand, since it's just downstairs, it means I barely have to get dressed in order to obtain sweet, delicious bagels (assuming that they are, of course, sweet and/or delicious). So, quasi-win?

That space seems a little cursed, to me. I hope something cool moves in there soon.

In the spirit of "competition is good," I am optimistically hoping that this will force Bagel Delight to start making real bagels and abandon their current practice of making giant soft doughballs.
  • i heard le bagel on 7th is undergoing a renovation at some point soon, so perhaps this new place will be able to come in and do some good business.

can the new place maybe stay open past 5pm?

le bagel delight has horrific hours for anyone who works.
  • the one down by Key Food closes early? Doesn't the one by Rite Aid stay open later now?
  • i'm guessing the large one by methodist stays open later...

i don't know what the hours are of the one closer to key food, but i've gone many times to try to get a bagel around 6:30 and the gate has already been pulled down...

    useless.

Remember when renovations started at the old D'Agostino there was a rumor of a new bagel store. It turned out La Bagel was moving to the space. I don't know, just a guess, but maybe the other La Bagel is about to move to the Farms space btw Pres/Union.

The La Bagel btw 6/7th streets has late hours.
  • i was actually thinking that exact same thing, bluecat.
  • 5th/10th spot is now a gift shop. I didn't go in but I saw lots of purses and some jewelry.
  • adding to the list...

3R Living on 5th Ave next to Bonnie's. They're selling the fixtures, until the end of Feb. Keeping an online biz.
  • OpossumQueen wrote: 5th/10th spot is now a gift shop. I didn't go in but I saw lots of purses and some jewelry.
    Yeah.. I noticed the change!

I didn't go in and there were no prices on bags visible through the window...
Wonder what price point this shop is about.
I plan to check it out.
  • The really sketchy deli on 6th ave at the corner of 10th closed for a little while to reopen looking a bit less sketchy. Does this count?
  • Do they sell more than kitty litter and budweiser now?
  • I saw fruit. I don't think I will ever buy fruit from that establishment.
  • Moutarde has been papered and is closed for renovations until March 15th. Anyone heard any inside info? They've been a mainstay on 5th for at least the past decade....yet I've never been tempted to eat there. The stretch between Union and 3rd street has lost quite a few stores and restaurants in the last 6 months.
  • What's going on at Get Fresh? Please let it be a remodeling. It's my #1 fav in The Slope.

Well, since it says renovating, I would say they are renovating!

I walk that stretch a lot and have only seen one or two places close. What am I missing?
  • get fresh is open.

    what's the problem?

it's one of my favorites too!
  • where/what is "get fresh"?

I wouldn't assume anything when it comes to restaurants in 2010. Grecian Corner has been "renovating" for 6 months now! Not to mention the delay in getting the old La Bagel Delight space reopened.

As for the closings on 5th. Matter, Playa + bar behind it, The Indian spot next to Playa, Cafe ____ (on president next to the cat clinic), 3R living (as mentioned by Pitu below). The Tempo spaces are still empty as well. Its really a shame.
  • For what it's worth, Moutarde appears to be genuinely renovating. Now, if they step up their game...

Wasn't that space a "cigar bar" before Moutarde? It was a good place to go while you waited for a table at al di la.
