Rats

Has anyone else noticed a marked increase in the number of rats on the street?

I walk to the subway early in the morning(to GAP), at around 6am so I'm used to seeing all sorts of nocturnal things but I have to say over the past 2 months I have noticed a large increase in the number of visible rats.

In the past I was seeing 1 or maybe 2 rats scurrying around and lately I've been seeing 4 or 5 times that on a regular basis. It's the worst I have seen in years.

Anyone else noticing this?

  • Yes, I noticed a marked increase in mice on subway tracks, but also in our own apartment. I had assumed it was just me thinking it.
  • scottb2k- You say " I have noticed a large increase in the number of visible rats". You'll know it's a problem when you start noticing a large increase in the number of INVISIBLE rats. Sorry. Couldn't help myself.

yes that was worded in a way that invited your comment :)

But to seriously answer your question. There are lots of ways to "see" rats and mice without seeing them. Droppings, destruction of garbage bags, chewed wires, scratch marks etc. It's when the population gets so large that they are forced to run out in the open and you can actually see them...thats when you know you are having a problem.
  • When it gets cold like this, I always see more rats roaming the subway tracks and the mice tend to spend more time in homes.
