FYI- 3 guys/ 1 gun- robbed a tenant in my building

Just an FYI to my fellow Crown Heightsters-

it was early yesterday morning (5.30am)- don't know all the details, but it was 3 guys with a gun and they held up my neighbor on the 4th floor.

Please, everyone- when someone rings your buzzer, FIND OUT WHO IT IS!

Chances are high that they pushed a bunch of buttons to get in (hubby heard ours at 4.30 that morning, as well as the ones above and below us), and a tenant who may have been expecting someone at that hour (or not), just buzzed them in. Very frustrating since we don't have cameras in our lobby. Many of us in the building have signed a petition that I'll be sending on to out LL, so we'll see if we can get one installed.

Meantime- LOCK YO DOORS!

We have this problem in my building too. It annoys the hell out of me that 90% of the time I'm being buzzed by some random person. I never check to see who it is nor do I let them in. They can contact the people they are actually looking for and gain entry into the building that way.

I would never have guests if I had to go down and let them in.

I have to admit, in the past, when I know I'm expecting someone, I've just buzzed them in. 99% of the time, it was indeed my people, but there were times when it wasn't. Also, my building is large (72 units), and you can't rule out that when you buzz one person in, there may be someone right behind them, helping themselves to an open door. Frustrating.

That really sucks hope your neighbor is ok.
Didn't you also have a rape or attempted rape in the building not too long ago? If so you better get that LL to install some better security for the tenants.

Yes, we had a violent rape in the building over the summer. He was stalking the victim for over a week, gaining her trust. Sick bastard. They got him though, with a GREAT sting that the victim was a part of (it was awesome, she was so brave).

I don't know who the recent victim is, and I don't know if he's ok. I'm sure I'll find out more this weekend- my neighbors get very chatty when stuff like this goes down.

And yes, the LL put a handle on the front door so we could actually CLOSE it behind us and we got a new intercom face (which doesn't seem to work very well, I walked into the vestibule yesterday and it was crackling like crazy while the poor guy who was trying to talk couldn't be heard).

Yea, it's candid camera time....fer sho.
