Anyone know of a good psychiatrist/therapist nearby?

If GHI will accept a CSW rather than a psychiatrist, I very highly recommend Phyllis Cohen. Her primary office is at 337 E. 50th Street in Manhattan; she used to (and may still... I don't know) have office hours on 1st Street near Prospect Park West one or two days a week.
She can be reached at [email protected] or at 212 355 4910.
She is a coauthor of "You Have to Say I'm Pretty, You're My Mother: How to Help Your Daughter Learn to Love Her Body and Herself"
She is an expert marriage/family counselor, among other things. She saved both my marriage and my relationship with one of my daughters. -
Here's a list of folks in private practice, and their ads

The trick is to then look at GHI's website and see if any of the ones you think you might like actually take GHI. (the ad site is sortable by what type on insurance they take, but providers add and drop insurance companies often. The GHI site is going to be the most reliable)
Some will take GHI as full payment, others will attach surcharges (they aren't supposed to, but who are we kidding?).
The psychologists usually cost more than the LCSW-Rs.
Neither can prescribe meds.
If you just think meds will help, try your MD primary care provider.
(sometimes talk therapy isn't what is needed)
...if they are resistant to prescribing you meds, and you indeed need them, the best route is to go thru a mental health clinic.

(note: many folks prefer therapists in private practice to those who work at clinics) -
Thanks to those who have responded so far. I don't need meds. I am having a hard time in my life right now and have come to realize that I need to talk to someone - a professional - who can help me before I go even more downhill. No meds needed though.

Benelisa, good luck with your search.
And remember rule # 1:
