Question about Carlton Ave
Hi Everyone,
I am on the verge of buying a place on Carlton betwenn Park Pl and Prospect Place. As a single female, I wanted to ask current reidents about the safety of that area. It looks fine, but I want to be sure. I've lived in Cobble Hill for years but regrettably know little about Prospect Heights. I have seen some posts here saying glowing things about safety around there, and others that are concerned about an upsurge in crime.
On another matter....as a prospective owner in the neighborhood, I am also concerned about the impact of the Ratner developments on property values, quality of life, etc. Any thoughts on that are welcome.
Thanks in advance for your input and if all goes well we may be neighbors soon.

My husband and I moved into the area from Carroll Gardens a little over a year ago. I think this neighborhood is probably a little less safe than CG--I tend to be a bit more aware of my surroundings rather than just wandering around with headphones on--but the block you're talking about is RIGHT by the subway exit, so it is probably one of the safest blocks around.
I think most of us here have concerns about the Ratner projects, traffic, and so forth, but that didn't stop me from buying here, for what it's worth.
Welcome to the board and (hopefully) the neighborhood. -
I would guess that property values will rise in that area after the arena is built.

We live on that same block, and we haven't had any problems. Once someone entered our building and stole stuff from our landlords that was in the hallway (they had the door propped open because they were going in and out).
It can get a little noisy sometimes in the summer with drunk and crazy people yelling, but this is pretty rare-- I'd say less than once a month. -
Subject: Carleton Ave
You'll be on a great block -- I've lived on Prospect Place between Carleton and Vanderbilt for 16 years now (included in that time is a stint on St. Marks Ave. between the same cross streets) and I have never had any kind of crime problem. When we moved here back in '89 you used to crunch crack vials under your feet in the morning, but things are different now...I'd say come on over and enjoy the beauty and convenience of PH!
Howdy, Stranger!
