Wow, I am impressed! I have never had a call, granted, my kids aren't out very often, but, still, never. -
BTW, as I am sure everyone knows by now, schools really are closed today! LOL

You called yoru students homes? In all my years of parenting, I have never, ever had a teacher call my house when one of my kids was absent. Do you teach at a private school?
No - it's public.
Since the tragedy of nixzmary brown, teachers are calling sooner to find out what's going on. I believe that NYC DOE teachers MUST call home on the 3rd consecutive absences and then if they can't find out the reason/get a doctor's note, they send the attendance secretary to the house to find out the reason.
With me, I call mostly to remind parents to BRING THEIR KIDS TO SCHOOL. We've only been in session 102 days, but I have kids with 30+ absences already. -
Holy moly! 30 plus absences?? I couldn't imagine! I guess that is why I never get called, my kids have never been out for 3 days in a row and probably have a total of 3 absences for the entire year!

I'm guessing xlizellx doesn't teach in PS or a neighborhood with a similar demographic if she teaches younger kids, but maybe high schoolers everywhere skip a lot. I can't imagine having to make all of those calls, but the students are lucky to have a teacher who does.
