Thank the Police — Brooklynian

Thank the Police

Yesterday afternoon I went to get some groceries around the corner and left my 2yr old son with his father at home. When I came back a few minutes later I found a police car with 3 women from the neighborhood holding my son, who was butt naked walking the streets alone, looking for me I guess.

I cannot thank enough those women who had the heart and good judgement to pick him up and call the police and wait around for a while, and just PLAIN OUT DO THE RIGHT THING. This had never happened to me before, both to prove how fragile our children are in this city and how incredible this community can be, when put to the test.

My boyfriend had heart surgery 2 weeks ago and he said he fell asleep and didn't hear me when I said I was going to the deli (I tried bringing my boy with me but he wanted to stay and watch Superman with his dad). Whatever the reasons, none justify the negligence, and none would bring my son back if a car had hit him or a madman taken him.

I JUST WANT TO THANK THE WOMEN WHO PICKED HIM UP AGAIN, THANK THEIR CARING HEARTS AND CLEAR MINDS, AND THANK THE POLICE FOR BEING THERE, FAST AND THOROUGH, FOR CHECKING MY APARTMENT AND OUR LIVING CONDITIONS, JUST TO MAKE SURE THIS HAD NOT BEEN A CASE OF SEVERE ABUSE.

will never forget.

  • Holy cow! That's frightening. I'm glad your little boy's okay.
  • That God!!! This could have turned out so differently. Next time bang on your boyfriend's head to make sure he knows your leaving the apartment.
  • Ooops! I meant to say "Thank God"
