The chocolate shop that was on the corner of 7th Ave. & 1st St. where CT Muffin is. With Hagen Daz next door we referred to the corner (which is two steps down) as Death Valley!

Yeah germains was a treasure trove of all sorts of things. I remember finding great curtains and yarn and all sorts of "stuff"...

My Sister's Kitchen on 7th 'tween 11th & 12th (I think). Truly homemade food.

I so miss 2nd street cafe. They had a great breakfast special weekdays.
There's nowhere to have breakfast if you hate the diners here, as I do. I go to Melissa's but enough already.

Does anyone remember Jack's on Union just below 7th? Where nail place is. We could use a decent "American"/Continental restaurant.

Jack's (the dry cleaner/tailor shop) on 15th Street and 8th Avenue.

Jack was a wonderful tailor, and an amazingly sweet and friendly guy. I've missed him since he closed his shop some years back.

The old time sawdust on the floor Palm Pines bar on Union below 7th that became Palm Pines restaurant that became something Elm (can't remember).

Mostly, I miss the Mongoose, which preceded the Park Slope food Co-op.

I know it's not in Park Slope but I agree, absolutely disgusting! We live around the corner and Twins was our go-to pizza place. Not the best pizza in the world but cheap and dependable. That pharmacy seems very sketchy to me - they keep the oddest hours.

Thanks to the poster who mentioned My Sister's Kitchen. I used to go there a lot to pick up lunch when we lived in the neighborhood. Does anybody remember a French bakery run by Haitians in the same area (11-12th Street on 7th Avenue), back in the late 80's or early 90's? That was another favorite of mine.

When we first moved to the Slope in the mid-70's there was a gourmet restaurant on Atlantic Avenue that had two seatings each night. It served only one appetizer, one entree and one dessert for each seating. In other words, you had no choice in what you ate... you ate whatever they were serving that night. The food was fabulous.

We don't remember the name of the restaurant, but we miss it a lot!

Edit: The name of the restaurant was "Paté Vite".

Was Raintrees the name of the restaurant at 9th and Prospect Park West? I liked that restaurant. They had a very nice steak au poivre.

I know this is before your time, but we had our wedding reception in Michelles in 1960. This June we will celebrate our 50th Anniversary. Other places back then were Bickfords Cafeteria and the "Cube Steak" diner both on 9th St between 5th & 6th Ave. Kahlers Deli on 5th between 12th & 13th Sts, Gramms Fish market on 5th between 13th & 14th st. You could go in and pick out your fish, come back in 15 minutes and it was cooked for you along with the best French Fries in the world. No ome who lived in the area when it was there will ever forget Germains on 5th & 15th St. Best darn mediun size department store ever. :roll: 8)
