Tipping at a Garage For Monthly Spot
Bad news is that I found out I will have to commute to Westchester every day for a few months for work. The good news is that they agreed to pay for a parking garage for me for a monthly spot so I don't have to spend an hour every night driving around when I come home.
I think I'm going to use the garage on 12th st off 8th Ave. They are 24/7 access with an attendant. When I park in garages I usually tip $2 or so when they bring my car. Do I need to keep tipping every time - even if I get the car out every single day? It seems like yes, but also seems ridiculous given the exorbitant amount of money you have to pay for the spot to begin with.
Does anyone have any experiences with this garage at all?
Also - anyone have good suggestions for routes to take to North White Plains? I guess my two options are BQE to Triboro, or Easter Pkwy to Jackie Robinson to Whitestone.

I think you could tip monthly.
I travel to Westchester a lot. My route is usually Battery Tunnel > West Side Hwy > H Hudson Bridge > Saw Mill Pkwy, then 87 east into White Plains.
You could also go up the FDR to Cross-Bronx to Henry Hudson Pkwy and Bridge.
Both routes of course depend on traffic. -
Wow... this is well into the realm of being very fancy pants!!
I'm gonna keep parking on the street and finding plenty of spots whenever I need 'em.
To stay on topic, I can't believe you would have to constantly tip... in fact I find the $2 to get your car in general strikes me as too much. But I don't participate in fancy pants parking. -
I give a dollar and the attendants are always grateful.

Yea. They are grateful so stop hatin and go research chemtrails some more.

My husband has a monthly spot at the Methodist garage and he has for years now. he has never tipped anyone except for at Christmas time he brings in baskets of food, etc. for the guys in the office. it is a self serve garage (he gets his own car, etc.), so, have never seen a need to tip anyone constantly

LongTimeSloper - does your husband take his car out during the day each day? I just called the garage and they said there were no monthly spots available. But when I told them I only needed it for nights, he said that was ok then. He said though that if you leave it during the day, there's a charge. The price was a lot cheaper than the 12st garage, so I'm seriously considering this one now.

Yes, my husband takes the car out every day. He has one of those nightly spots you are speaking of. The car has to be out by 8:30am (8:45 maybe?), I believe and he can't put it back until 5:45 or later that night. Weekends and holidays are freebies, he can come and go as much as he likes those days.
If he doesn't take the car out on a weekday (sometimes he is sick and stays home from work), I believe he ends up paying $18 for that day, I could be wrong on that, it might be less. The regular monthly charge for this is $175.00 per month. -
I used to park my car in the garage on Union between 8th and PPW. I would call ahead and my car would be waiting for me. We always tip the guy a buck or two. We did this till we went broke.
