Super Loud Neighbors
Hi,
Just moved into the neighborhood, into an apt off Franklin Ave. like it a lot so far... reasonable rent, convenient, close to the Park, good food, etc. Been enjoying reading this forum over the last couple weeks, have a question I hope someone can help with.
My neighbors are LOUD. 4 in the morning, scandalous loud, playing super loud music, apparently taking turns with one girl with the requisite bed banging against the wall loud, arguing, laughing, fighting loud... I wouldn't be thrilled with it at anytime but I can deal with it before midnight. 4 AM though.... is making my blood boil. Don't want to call the cops because it would obviously be me (just moved in, and the way the building is constructed I'm the one who hears it the loudest, maybe the only one who hears it). Not sure who lives in that unit, but I think it's the kids who hang out in the stairwell and directly in front of my door all day/night. Haven't talked to them or the super yet, those are my next steps but my guess is neither one is gonna care. Any suggestions???
Thanks

....welcome to the 'hood.
You may want to invest in earplugs.
In the summer, some folks face their speakers out the window.... -
-
Let your landlord know about the noise and then start preparing to move. Can't imagine anyone who plays music that loud at 4am is ever going to stop.
-
thanks for the advice, the aristocrats joke is pretty damn funny... gonna talk to them during the day, but like you said PM, I really don't expect anything other than a glare... we'll see I guess
-
I would let the Landlord know -- he/she probably isn't aware at all and maybe they could speak to them about it.
we have loud neighbors too -- cops have been called and landlord notified ....if they accuse you just deny it if you're worried about safety of self/stuff. Maybe stand outside when it happens and just hold their buzzer button until they turn it off. -
consider it a welcome to the hood! your neighbors are getting you ready for summer. Guaranteed there will be at least a few occurrences of you being kept awake until 6AM wondering when the hell your apt was relocated to the center of giants stadium. The music played is usually really good but at 4AM, 6AM...? Anyway, yeah, let your LL know but just know if it's not your neighbors, it'll be someone else's party somewhere else. I see earplugs and white noise machines in your future.

Call 311, or play classical music really loud on their "night off"

You should've visited the building all times of the day/night & checked w/the pct.'s yellow sheet, B4 moving in.
I would look for another place to live B4 the summer starts.
Try a block with a church or block association on or near.
Idle minds do stupid stuff, day & night.
Good luck and MOVE. -
That's the problem of living in an area that has yet to reach advanced stages of gentrification. You still have plenty of the unpolished ghetto types who have no consideration for their neighbors.
Yea, yea, I know. Frat boy types are even worse, hipsters stumbling home from bars are also loud, yadda, yadda, yadda... -
you know what best improves on noise
and quality of life?
an arena -
Pardon my ignorance, but what is a 'pct's yellow sheet'?

It sounds to be that Fancy wants people to move into their apartments pre-rent-paying to see if it is ever noisy. My neighbors will be fine for a few days and then go insane with the loudness. How many days/nights should I stay before I sign a lease to see if it ever gets noisy.

seems like my neighbors are like xlizellx's... kinda loud on average, but nothing too crazy, except for the few random nights when they invite their friends over for rape orgies. also, lots of bass at 8:30 am. including weekends. dont understand how anyone who parties until 4:30 has the energy to get up at 8:30. but i like the apt and moving sucks. put a fan in my room and i have ear plugs waiting in the wings. and i've got a big stereo myself so its gonna be a soundclash, 80s dj style

Yeah, seriously. What is up with that??? Wouldn't it make more sense for them to leave the speakers inside?? It's so annoying.

No. See, they're outside on the stoop. -

When I was an RA in college, kids used to do that all the time -- blasting music out the dorm windows so they could sit on the lawn and listen to their music. At least back then I had the authority to ticket them for the nonsense. Think about other people... -
RAPE ORGIES, DAMN. THAT SHOULD WARRANT A CALL TO THE BOYS IN BLUE???????????
Howdy, Stranger!
