Yarn shop

Stitch Therapy moved in with another store on 7th, past snice. Merchant something or other.
The yarn store on union is way too expensive. -
DD, thank you so much! I'll pop in there. Sometimes you just gotta have yarn...NOW. And Stitch Therapy had some inexpensive options.
-
I am a knitter and I buy everything on line. I think this works if someone knows yarn and brands. I only buy stuff that I have actually touched or used before in a project. Ebay has great bargains if you know what you want.
-
Yes, I've gotten a lot of stuff from Ebay and Webs. But sometimes you like to feel them first - as you say, you need to have touched it. Love in-person buying for that.
-
i was never in the old stitch therapy, but stopped in the new location yesterday. it's in the brooklyn mercantile on 5th ave b/t 3rd and 4th st.
also, it's not in the slope, but there's a place on atlantic b/t bond and hoyt that has a bigger selection. -
My wife is a big fan of the Lion Brand Yarn Studio in the city on w 15th St

Hey ljnd, Maxcine moved her shop to FIFTH avenue, between 3rd and 4th streets (I built her new sales counter).
Stitch Therapy
335 Fifth Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11215
(718) 398-2020
Maxcine has a new wool/acrylic blend thats inexpensive and economical, but she also carries some nice inexpensive wools, like Berroco "Cuzco"/medium weight/130 yards/$9.00. -

Lion Brand makes good yarn at a reasonable price. I am sure that feeling at this place is great and then order on e bay!

Thank you so much!!!! I like Lion as well. I've felt them up
at the Rhinebeck yarn fair.
But I will definitely also stop by Maxcine's for my insta-fix!!! This is all great info! -
also try etsy.com. sellers might even send you a little sample. much of it is hand-spun, hand dried, affordable.
-
Thank you!! Yes, I went up to Rhinebeck this year and the yarn I really really love was sold on etsy, and then - horrors! - the seller ran out. I wasn't the only one who loved it.
-
i've always wanted to up to the rhinebeck festival
-
BP, it is fantastic. And exhausting. And fantastic. Fiber LUST.
-
I spent all of today arranging my stash of yarns.
It was a terrific day.
Watch out... this can become an obsession.
Personally, I have embraced the obsession and it has become a stabilizing factor in my attempt to continue mental health.
I am still crazy but have made some great sweaters -
Veets, my grandma taught me to knit when I was 8. I turn to it in times of great stress - of which this last month has been thanks to moving home and office. (And my boyfriend's move to Staten Island - in a way, two moves in one. Screamingly stressful.) I now have a huge basket for my "right now" projects, and a special cabinet in the basement for the stash. I am surrendering, in other words.

^^ Agreed!!!!!

So as we go through these dark days of winter perhaps we need to have "knitting group" to meet in person gleaned from Brooklynian.
Love the idea.. cause I will be the oldest and the Matriarch! -
I love it too!!! Yes, let's!
-
I've given in to the lust too and have made a few blankets, neck warmers, wristy fingerless mittens and am now moving on to baskets etc. So much is available to do!
Visit taunton.com and you'll find the equivalent of a knitting; sewing; crochet group - whatever your poison. The instructions for ongoing projects are so clear and easy.
I've also found a segment on TV where I've learned a few stitches and projects.
This winter promises to be productive! -
I love Taunton. The former CEO is a good friend - he tips me off to things all the time. What's the TV show you watch?
Am nearly done with a green mohair scarf that's knitting up like a furry anaconda. -
It's all about the fiber lust. But before you start another knit group do check out these fine folks:

The show is Knit & Crochet Today; Fridays, Ch 21; 3pm. The visual instructions are pretty good!
I can't believe all the links posted about knitting groups! Thanks Yarn Monkey!
I'm crocheting a basket from Taunton.com that will end up becoming a cat bed and a "tube" that's a scarf/hood. Very thick, very warm. -
just found the book by Tracey Ullman and her friend: Knitting for Two at the strand. B&N has it for 21.00 strand had it for $9.
Terrific book! -
That "tube" I was crocheting turned into a poncho that's almost done! Someone on the train asked what I was making - I love it when that happens!
-
I learned the basics of knitting as a kid (through my grandmother) and recently took the beginner class at Stitch Therapy - I loved it. I am on my 2nd project now (and I went to the knitting circle at ST to get started). Sorry I was away from this for soooooo many years...it's so relaxing. And I love the store!
Howdy, Stranger!
