More like a plea for attention. If Ortiz is your assemblyperson, send him a note.
1. Albany introduces thousands of bills, only a handful become laws.
2. Try removing all salt from the human body...not pretty. -
ridiculous idea. imo, food is often merely the vehicle for the salt. but i am lucky not to suffer consequent health issues. however, the point still remains that excessive salt consumption cannot be blamed on restaurants, as restaurant-prepared meals account for a very small percentage of the majority of people's food intake, ortiz has a strong record on public health advocacy, but he's also exceeded the boundaries of sensible policy, before. for example, his legislation to sharply limit access to ECT treatment for senior citizens. ECT has proven clinically to be one of the more effective approaches to dealing with treatment-resistant depression in geriatric psychiatry.

don't they ever get the idea prohibition type of stuff doesn't work. look at alcohol and pot. now slowly starting with smoking!!!!
come on i hate how much salt they put into my fries but hey i rather have salt than no salt at all.
people should be allow to do what ever they want with their bodies from suicide to doing drugs to selling their bodies. screw off gov. -
Subject: Felix Ortiz needs to get a new job
I know his district doesn't cover all of us, but those of us who can fire him, let's do so, please:
http://blog.timesunion.com/tablehopping/13889/assemblyman-seeking-to-ban-all-salt-in-restaurant-cooking/
This idiot flat-out admits he doesn't know what he's talking about, but hey, in the midst of the worst economic crisis in decades in New York, let's take the time to try to pass a bill that would destroy the restaurant/food service industry in New York overnight. -
Yeah, he's earned the dunce cap on this one.
And you can tell him so!
Assemblymember Felix Ortiz contact form:
http://assembly.state.ny.us/mem/?ad=051&sh=contact
The good bad news is, the Assembly is totally lame like everything else in Albany. Thousand of bills get proposed, dozens get passed, and hardly any make any dent in the law. So nothing will come of this, and the restaurant industry is safe. Seriously, of all the effective ways you could promote a healthy diet, THIS bill is not one of them. -
I already wrote him and the bill's co-sponsors...this is the most brain-dead half-baked bill I've seen...I think, ever.

Yeah, I'm not really worried about the thing passing, it's not going to happen. But the fact that this guy thinks this is somehow a reasonable idea, that he would even waste the time writing it up is unbelievable. Why do we vote for people this incredibly stupid? -

Give it a few months, we'll see something worse. This is New York after all. Apparently our elected officials have nothing better to spend their time on, like, say, the economy, the MTA or education... -
Mod Note: There's another thread going about this. I'm going to merge them and move it to Brooklyn Politics. Carry on...
-
OMG - during the next snowstorm there will be citizens diving onto the street trying to lick up the banned substance!!!!
-
sanitation will make a fortune selling their stockpile
outside salt rehab centers. -
AH HA! We have resolved the budget gap!
-
To quote my friend johnny boy on the salt ban,
" I think it's great that Felix is wasting his time on a salt ban, it will stop him from interfering with my cocaine and heroin business in Sunset Park." -
A**hole. More Democrats trying to control our lives.

Yeah, because Republicans never try to do that.

You're comparing one lesbian not being able to wear a tux to her prom ( in Miss. no less) to banning salt in cooking in all of New York? -
It's funny that a lesbian in Miss.,can't wear a tux to a prom, but if you get married there and obtain a divorce in N.Y., your still brother and sister.
-
I guess Ortiz's final step in his moronic decision will be to:
Desalinate the beach water at Coney Island.
Ban all tourism to Salt Lake City.
Open 15 Salt Detox Centers in Sunset Park. -

was not allowing lesbians in Miss. to dance with each other at a prom in Ortiz's ban salt legislation, did Miss. move to Brooklyn or are we just off topic.
As far as I'm concerned it's a hole different matter. -

I think the tangent began when eggcream went off on his usual tirade about Democrats "trying to control our lives" when in fact the Repugs are way more intrusive.

i feel if one doesn't agree with someone ,it's better to ignore them.
everyone does that to me . -

WTF does that have to do with this thread? There was already a gay marriage thread where it was mentioned that mostly black and asian Democrats were against gay marriage. -

You brought up the fallacious point that Democrats try to control people's lives more than Republicans, when the opposite is true. Although some Democratic voters were the swing group that pushed Prop 8 over the top in California, the legislation was proposed and backed almost entirely by the right wing and Republican establishment. To claim otherwise is revisionist history. Not that that has stopped you before... -
I can see signs popping up in restaurants.....BYOS
