The plate comes with Mimolette (a French hard orange cheese) and Manchego, along with a variety of cured meats. I'll probably get it next time I'm there (and not stuffed with delicious sushi), and I'll report back.
i read that menu too
you can't go wrong with manchego

gonna have to try it soon.
it's only a few blocks away.
    could prove dangerous.
  • Frankie's 457 on Court Street is great. Lots of wine, cheese and meat options. Can be a bit pricey, though. And it's in Carroll Gardens, so may be far for you?

  • What's with all of the Manchego lovers? Eh, it's ok, but give me a good Epoiss (sp?) or anything that smells worse than my feet........then, you're a cheese lover!
  • Flex, I'm sure your feet smell like roses. Have you ever shopped at International Taste on 150 7th Ave? granted it's not a wine and cheese bar but they do have the kind of smelly and runny cheese that'll remind you of the Staten Island landfill on a hot summer night. They have decent meat as well.
  • I never go in there. I think it's because I never imagined anything special inside....maybe it is the display of food on the sidewalk (do they still do that?). I have a "thing" about open food (like buffets).

Blue Apron has some great cheeses. Also a place on 5th Ave. The name escapes me, but most people think of them for their beer selection.

Actually, my feet smell like verbeena right now - thanks to a good bath ;-)
  • I've never seen them serve cheese outside. Mosly cooked stuff like kibbeh , falafel and bread. Try 'em. They have a great selection. Blue Apron is okay. Personally, I think their cheese selecion is kind of weak. They need stronger stuff.
  • I'm all cheesed-up now. Daman! No cheese in the house, either :(

Bierkraft. I also think their meat and cheese selections are under-recognized, but they're not cheap.
  • That's it! Bierkraft! Their cheese people are knowledgeable and passionate about their cheese.

Maybe I'll head over to Artisinal and just drool (this is why I don't like buffets!)

No, not cheap, but they do have some good stuff... I stopped off there before a flight to MN - I brought a friend a half-pound of their finest prosciutto. He was very happy.

Totally. You definitely get what you pay for there (in a good way).
  • Off topic a little but if you're ever in Vegas you should check out the wine , cheese and meat plates at the Petrossian bar in the Bellagio.
  • I've been thinking about going to Vegas for a while now. I'll keep that in mind, but if I do it, I'll never tell, because what happens in Vegas...........
  • I'm going in late August or early September. Unlike the slogan I brag.
  • yeah, I brag, too. and will be back in V-town in a couple weeks.
  • ok, I brag, but only selectively (not to "invisafriends) :P
  • My neighbor's daughter runs a rib joint in LV. I will post the name and addy if you're interested. Speaking of which are you and Carnivore up for that Israeli place?
  • Flexichick wrote: ok, I brag, but only selectively (not to "invisafriends) :P
I brag to anyone who will listen.
  • I'll listen. All kinds of people tell me secret shit all the time. It's amazing.
  • It's gotta be tit for tat. I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours. You can also mime it if you don't feel like speaking.

I'd be up for that. How about lunch this Saturday?

    I could do that.
  • Saturdays are a no no. Some secret ceremony called shabbott. Mon-Thurs & Sun. It might also be a BYOB. Does anyone else want in?

D'Oh! I should have seen that coming!

Monday works for me for dinner as long as it's not too early (at least 8pm).
  • Shabbott for them I mean. I'm very Baal-ist in my observance.

I have to go there in December for a conference so I might be interested in checking it out. Although I'm sure my state employee's meal allowance won't cover it.

    Donny: They posted the schedule...
Walter: Donny, shut the fu -- When do we play?
    Donny: Saturday.
Walter: I told that fuck at the office... who's in charge of scheduling?
    Donny: Berkalter.
Walter: I told that Kraut a thousand times I don't roll on Shabbos!
The Dude: Walter what are we going to do about the girl, MAN!
Donny: How come you don't roll on Saturday's Walter?
Walter: Saturday, Donny, is the Jewish day of rest. I don't cook, I don't drive a car, I don't fucking ride in a car, I don't handle money, I don't turn the oven on, and I sure as shit DON'T FUCKING ROLL! Shomer Shabbos!
    Donny: Ghheess...
    The Dude: Walter...
    Walter: Shomer fucking Shabbos!
    The Dude: Aw, fuck it!
