Bloodstained Union St at 5th Avenue

This morning I was walking down Union Street past 5th avenue, right outside the Brooklyn Industries store. There was a terrible amount of blood spattered across the sidewalk, some collected on napkins in the gutter. I've tried to find any news of a fight or a violent crime, but so far the internet news sources haven't covered anything.
Does anyone know what happened and if the victim is alright?

    That fact that it was cleaned up with napkins I have a feeling it will never be reported.

    I just found out it was a friend of mine I hadn't talked to in a couple of weeks. He was walking home from another friend's house late/early and got jumped. They didn't take anything. They just sent him to the emergency room badly beaten.

    Apparently someone heard him call out and called an ambulance.

    He didn't even see them or hear them coming as he was listening to his i-pod. He's doing fine now but has sworn off wearing headphones at night.
