What happened last night at Sepia Bar?
Around 12:30, we were crossing Eastern Parkway and Underhill and literally walked into a street brawl involving people from Sepia Bar: about ten or twelve guys exchanging threats, punches and smashing bottles. We've lived in this neighborhood for ten years and have never seen anything like this. It was sheer chaos.
Does anyone know what happened?
thanks

Wow, that's bizarre. Sepia is usually such a chill spot. That's not the kind of thing I would expect there at all. If anything, when I've heard people with complaints about Sepia, it's that there's an "older crowd" there, which doesn't appeal to everyone.

I thought it was a Brooklyn Tea Party meeting.
-
awesome. drinking and fighting go together so well!
-
I saw it too - a pretty serious brawl. Half of the combatants retired back to the bar after the fight, so I'm pretty sure they were regulars. Anyone know the score?

Second hand info here: two already-inebriated gentlemen (non-regulars) walked in, ordered expensive shots, then complained about the price and refused to pay, apparently using incredibly colorful and aggressive language in the process. They were asked to leave. They went outside, loudly, and waited. Bartender went out, got punched, and the regulars emptied out. Pushing and shoving ensued. The owner, Delissa, who had not been present at the bar until just then, arrived and began to intervene. One of the inebriated gentlemen that started the entire thing clocked her as well, whether intentionally or otherwise. Regulars got very, very angry. You can guess where that went.
Again, just what I heard. Was not personally a witness to the proceedings. I will say that I still consider Sepia a very chill, safe spot to relax. And that many of us regulars who've been going there since opening in 2004 may have an overdeveloped sense of loyalty to the place and are perhaps a tad overprotective of Delissa. Maybe. -

A couple of strangers walk into a bar, cause a ruckus, get tossed out. They wait outside and sucker punch the bartender. In the ensuing boondoggle they punch the owner - a woman.
It's a real testament to the regular's self-control that those two "gentlemen" weren't beaten within an inch of their lives. -
I tend to agree with you.

Where is Sepia? Is that that spot on Sterling/Washington?

. On underhill, almost at ep -
It's on Underhill and Lincoln right beside Cheryl's.

Was the owner seriously injured? Sad.
Good for you guys for sticking up for her and the bar. I only get to Sepia every so often, but really enjoy it. -
if only we had a sports arena
with a team from nj
this scenario would never happen -

Not seriously. She had a sore jaw for a couple of days.

i agree karl
and thanks to your relentless activism
and that of your stellar cronies
we will never have an arena in this neighborhood
your accomplishments are an inspiration to others around the world
you showed that it is possible to topple the giant
yes, no arena
ever -
actually my fear is that fcr
is does this is itself whenever it skips mortgage payments on metrotech
but as I told bruce
nothing compliments local biz like an olive garden near vandy -
I'm betting Cheesecake Factory.
don't we already have a Applebee's across from the Fulton Mall?
But back to Sepia:
Last night was very chill, with two guys playing jazz.... -
I like Sepia too, but they need a few more signs saying you can't run a tab.

Drop a credit card.

Yes we do -- and there's one opening in 6 weeks in the Atlantic Terminal

Really? A cheesecake Factory at Atlantic Mall?

I was thinking another Applebee's.
I don't think the people frequenting Atlantic Mall really fit with the demographic Cheesecake Factory targets. Maybe they should open a Red Lobster. -
yea, I think xilix knows of a upcoming Applebees.
I don't think we are at the Cheese Cake factory level. ....just look at our mismanaged Target.
...or our "lets swear at the cashier until they escort me out" Pathmark.
(note: none of this has anything to do with Sepia) -
Yeah, that's what I thought. Hence my surpirse at the very idea of a Cheesecake Facory opening anywhere around here. As for Red Lobster, I'm all for it! That was actually part of the inital plans and designs for Atlantic Center, but at some point during initial construction, they dropped out.
Oh well, back to noteworthy Sepia happenings - my wife and I will likely stop in this evening. May not be noteworthy to most, but trust me, when you have two young kids, an hour or two away with your spouse on a random weeknight is pure gold.
Howdy, Stranger!
