Furniture store? — Brooklynian

Furniture store?

Anyone know of a discount furniture store in PS or really anywhere in Brooklyn? Im trying to find a mattress and maybe a table/nightstand w/out paying a fortune. Im thinking of one of those huge furniture discount places that I'd have to drive to, but any place u know of w/ decent cheap stuff would be good too.

Thx

  • Furniture? Anyone? Ahh patience. Ok- Im gonna drink another beer and play some more online poker.
  • Have you tried Craig's list? Otherwise you can try 5th Ave in the mid 40's there are a couple of discount furniture stores there. There is a great little solid wood furniture store on the corner of 5th and Bergen who seem to be cheaper than Gothic. There is also the Salvation Army stores on Flatbush (and Bergen) and Atlantic (I think between 3rd and Nevins). I have a friend that rides through 3rd Ave by the factories or whenever she sees construction work going on and takes those big round wooden thingy's (they look like oversize thread spools) and she uses those as tables.

As far as mattresses - you can try Rockaway Bedding in the Atlantic Terminal. I got one there not too long ago and got a single mattress, boxspring, frame and delivery for about $300. I think there is a Sleepy's on 5th Ave (I think near 12th Street).

    Good luck.
  • I got a lot of great stuff super cheap at Bibilio's (I think that's the name). We call it the Beareria because there's a picture of a bear on the sign. It's on 5th Avenue and ... 13th Street? I don't remember exactly. It's used furniture, lots of junk, but some really nice stuff. They delivered (free) to me in Bed-Stuy too! For a bed I'd get a new one somewhere.
  • I like the idea of solid wood furniture. Screw that crappy veneer stuff (it also emits toxins). If only I could afford it. Actually, I think I walked into a store on 7th ave closer to Flatbush that had some solid wood stuff. Ill look into the place near 5th and Bergen. Will also check out those mattress stores.

I put the "Beareria" on my list. There was a place on 5th ave and 10th or so selling twin mattresses for $29 two weeks ago. It seems they're out of business. The place next door wants $199 for a similar non brand, non-supportive mattress.
