CAUGHT!!! armed rapist/mugger in Clinton Hill/BedStuy

Hey all,

I've been disturbed that there hasn't been any coverage on the violent rape that happened on 3/16 on the campus of PS3, a grade school on Jefferson & Franklin.

Apparently, the criminal is still on the loose, and attacked again last nite, on Downing & Gates. Here's the info on Brownstoner, with a copy of the Wanted Poster:

Ladies, be safe! And let's catch this fucker!

  • thanks for posting solamami!
  • This is too close to home and very unnerving. Even if the suspect didnt commit both crimes I would think that the police would let Joe Public know there is a rapist on the loose in Clinton Hill and Bed Stuy. Are they waiting for another attack? Is this connected to the rape of the female doctor on her way to work on St Felix St in Ft Greene at 5 30 am a few months ago? We need more of a police presence in the early hours or a neighborhood watch patrol or something. Time to pack the mace or whatever with your lunch and as they say be vigilant when leaving for work or school early in the morning especially now the time has gone forward and it is still dark at 6am. :(
  • Tell me about it, sis. I'm sick about it. Imagine stumbling across a CSU truck in front of your kid's grammar school and police tape by the playground bathrooms. Detectives with gloves & guns as kids frolic on the monkey bars. Cuz that's what happened last Tues. My kid is only 5!!

No one wants to step up: Not the DOE, the Parks Dept. the precinct. But they're all guilty when no one patrols the area, or even knows who has the keys to padlock the goddamn gates. PS3 is a stone's throw away from the Bedford Armory, so there are all sorts of shady, ignominious characters around.

I've been asking NY1 to cover this, as it's clearly a safety issue, a community issue, and now, a disturbing trend. 2 attacks in 2 weeks spells serial to me (Maybe 3 if St. Felix is related). I also put a call into CB3 to lean on the Parks Dept. to enforce the "Park Closes at Dusk" signs. Not feeling too optimistic about that one, but it's a start.
  • I had police come to my door yesterday after the Gates incident and they told me about the Jefferson assault. So its definitely on their minds whether they are publicizing it or not.

And yes, the 5:30 AM time of the rape on Gates made me also wonder about a possible connection to the attack on the doctor on St Felix.

Whatever they may or may not be able to connect I agree that there is enough info out there for the police to put out a warning to residents. This kind of thing can't be swept under the rug or papered over.
  • Solomami, good luck in trying to get folks to deal with that park. I grew remember thirty years ago when the small playground on Hancock was a drug spot/ shooting gallery. It was so bad you literally had to step over crackheads in the early hours to get to the train station. The school said they didn't control the area it was the Parks Dept. Parks said they couldn't lock the playground because of the school. The police refused to move anyone. As the neighborhood got better, the park gradually cleaned up, but it doesn't surprise me that no one wants to take responsibility for the area.
  • Subject: rapist

Great. This is my daughter's newer neighborhood.

It was a lead in for all the11PM network news last night.

And I believe they said the last woman was raped at 4:30PM on Monday. She was dragged off of the street in the daylight!!

The fact that two rapes occured at 5:30AM would lead you to think it may be a time this person gets off of work or whatever activity he's involved in at that time of the morning.

    Be careful ladies.
  • I saw that on Channel 7 where they said it was 4:30 PM but I don't think that can be correct based on the info I got from the cops when they were canvassing the neighborhood.
  • So typical to blame the cops and act like they aren't doing anything. You people need to know when to shut up. The police have to go into this shit neighborhood everyday and clean up your messes. Now not all but most in that neighborhood are animals. I mean please. The police are there to try and clean it up. But God knows that will never happen. ANIMALS!
  • Daisy, stop the name calling, thanks.

  • Daisy, that's a very broad stoke you just painted everyone with in that statement.
  • Brief follow-up: I was at Ft. Greene Park today, and another parent told me that there were some reporters from The NY Times asking residents if they were concerned about safety. Oh, how I wish they had found me! I would've given them an earful! Anyway, be on the lookout for an article in the Metro section in the next couple of days. It'll be interesting to see how they present it.
  • 79 precinct leads in homicides. It's a fact.
  • Correction - 3rd in homicides - 1st in shootings!
  • What would you have said, Solamami? For the most part I don't focus on the backdrop of violence so close to my home, but then I wonder if I am just being crazy for not responding more vehemently.
  • Well, what homeowner said about this going on for the past 30 years just confirmed my fear that this is a case of passing the buck and ignoring the denizens of a community who want to live here but feel helpless against bucking the status quo.

No one even knows who has the damn keys to the padlock to lock up Hancock Park. It's not the school; it's the Park Dept., and the neither them nor the cops care to enforce it. When I called the Community Board, the woman asked pointblank, "Well, what do you want US to do about it?"

The first rape got ZERO press. People only know about it now because now it's a trend. But to pick up your child at a public grammar school and to walk into a crime scene is an image I can't get out of my head. The fact that the Bedford Armory is a stone's throw away, and Bloomberg wants to dump even more homeless, mentally ill & addicted vagrants there to keep precious Manhattan bum-free (Really? Only ONE homeless dude in all of Times Square??) doesn't bode well for this neighborhood either.

I want to pull my kid out of PS3, and I'm debating pulling up stakes altogether.

    That an earful?
  • Well, I'd tell you the following, I wouldn't pull my kid out of the school if I felt that he or she was getting a good education. This crime isn't the school's fault, and I'm sure if you talk to the administration they are as frustrated about it as you are.

It was bad 30 years ago, but it did get better, to the point where folks are shocked that a crime could have been committed in that playground. My advice for you:

    1) Start working with the PTA and the school administration to out pressure on the police to make some changes. But remember, that playground is used by the larger community and you'll get pushback if the sole solution is to lock the playground any time school is closed.

    2) Contact News 12, not NY1. News 12 is actively looking for stories and will cover anything in Brooklyn if you reach out to them. Often their stories get picked up by other stations.

    3) Attend the 79th Precinct Council meeting and ask the police what they are doing to work with the 88th Precinct (where the other rapes occured) on solving this

    4) Let your neighbors know. Alert the block associations, etc and ask them to spread the word.

    That's a start.
  • Still no word on if the rapist's been captured or his whereabouts? He's out there somewhere and hopefully will be recognized by the scetch the police put out. Be careful ladies (not at all that you aren't)
And guys, I hope someone gets a few minutes alone with him before handing him over to the cops.
  • Spotted on @Brownstoner just now...
