HUH?? Mission Dolores? New BAR?
Weird, I was looking at the listing for NYC Craft Beer Week
http://nycbeerweek.com/
and they mentioned
Mission Dolores
249 4th Ave
Park Slope, Brooklyn
A look at google map's 'street view' shows the space where Cattyshack was at.
Is this the new Cattyshack? I haven't looked in to it AT ALL, so my apologies if I'm jumping to a wrong conclusion. Just wondering. I've never heard of this place before.
I'm randomly posting this here in the off chance someone can clear this up before the end of the weekend -at that point I'll probably just walk over and check it out.

Mission Dolores? That's my old 'hood in San Francisco.... even if the bar sucks, the name is great!

From MetroMix:
The brothers behind Smith Street beer den Bar Great Harry are opening another brew-centric watering hole, right next to Cattyshack on Fourth Avenue in Park Slope. Mission Dolores, as it's called, will serve 24 craft beers and one cask ale on tap—18 American, plus six Belgian and German—as well as a handful of DUB meat pies, like it's done back at Bar Great Harry. The furniture and materials will mostly be salvaged, and the space is "bizarre," according to co-owner Mike Wiley, who describes it as "a huge Vol de Nuit," which as far as we're concerned sounds great. Bonus: Heated floors. The better for lying on the ground in the winter?
249B Fourth Ave.
Brooklyn, NY 11215
Opening late September/early October 2009 -
Are you sure it's not going to be named Mission Mulva?

Subject: Open Yet?
Has anyone been able to confirm if Mission Dolores is open yet? I haven't been past the 4th Ave. location in a while and just keep going to Bar Great Harry. I'm looking forward to the new place when/if it's ready for business. -
I heard the Latin American is opening on 7th and 16th.

it looks like they're still doing significant work on the space, like they're a ways away from opening. -

Looks like they'll be open by Feb. -
it's actually going to be two different bars right there next to each other...
cattyshack is becoming an as of yet un-named bar and attached will be the new mission dolores.

Will there be lesbians?
-
i have pics of my mom in front of the actual mission dolores in the 70s. will take her there when she comes for mother's day.

The above article says it will be open in February...has it opened yet?

According to the Bar Great Harry owners — same folks who own MD — the bar is opening this afternoon. I'm excited about that. BGH is one of my favorite spots in the city for a drink, and having a similar place on the edge of PS makes my beer life better.

Yeah, I'm friends with the bartender/woman who runs the trivia (Mary) at BGH. She says MD had its "soft opening" yesterday. If it's the same kind of vibe as BGH, except a lot closer, I'll be very happy.

Will this place be dog friendly like Bar Great Harry?
-
yup, i was there last night and plenty of dogs there.
-
dogs AND pinball! i'm gonna live there.
-
it was seriously crowded last night. not sure where if there were a lot of people there just cause it was opening night, or a combination of that and the fact they opened a bar with outdoor space at the perfect time, or if there were a ton of people that always wanted to go to a bar but thought great lakes and high dive were too far, or what...
-
Went Friday and Saturday...packed both nights. Very cool bar.
-
Yeah, this place is sweet. Knock-out beer selection, very unique open air space, they open at 2pm. Not bad at all.
-
I really don't see what's so great about this place. The beers are ok - standard decent beer selection, but they are $7-$8. The drink menu sucks. The staff is kinda awkward.
Also, what's so unique about not having a roof? Sure, it's better than sitting on a roasting sidewalk in the summer with buses humming by (can you say The Gate?), but it's nothing special.
They have pinball... but I've always found that to be rather isolationist as far a bar game goes... give me darts, bocce, or a pool table. Give me strippers, piles of blow, and dance floor...something. I don't think the place even plays music.
Give me something that promotes socialization. Otherwise I'd rather suck down Guinness after $5 Guinness on a bar stool at any other of the great bars in the greatest town in NYC next to a wise friend with no teeth.
My main complaints are:
1) this place has nothing that this hood already doesn't have 8 of
2) it does nothing especially well
3) the long layout and forcing people to sit on sides of the space inhibits spontaneous interactions
4) all weird dudes last time I was there -
Who knew DR was such a social butterfly, huh?
-
The list is far from common, I assure you. If you're a craft beer fan, it's a pretty stellar list. They have beers they have everywhere but they have several which you don't see too often.
-
Can't believe that they actually waste on of their taps on Genessee Cream Ale. The list looks decent but definitely includes beers that are available at other bars like 4th Avenue Pub or Washington Commons. Will definitely check it out this weekend.
