I guess I should have written that I am simply looking for someone careful enough to put color only on my roots and not slop it all over my head, and who doesn't charge uptown prices.

there's a new place called voluspa on lincoln and 7th which LOOKS really really nice. hair salon and spa.
haven't yet tried it, but have been wanting to. -
Thanks, Belz . . . .
OK, I should have been more specific in my original question. I am really only looking for someone who can touch up my gray(ing) roots every two weeks. I went to one salon on 7th Ave and they butchered my hair. I could keep going to the place on upper Mad in the city but at $125 a pop, it's currently out of my price range.
Has anyone had a good or bad experience at the salon belzjm mentioned?
Also, I checked Yelp and Rapunzel Rapunzel and Delilah seem to have pretty good raps. Anyone been to either of these? -
why are you redoing your roots every two weeks?! Its almost impossible to retouch that small of an amount of hair without overlapping. That cant be more than 1/3 of an inch of regrowth...
also I had a not-great experience at Delilah, for the record. The result wasn't terrible but the experience was sort of unpleasant. -
Thanks, Carmen.
I'm retouching my roots every two weeks because my hair grows very quickly. I can color the sides easily enough but I get overlap on the back when I color it myself. Also, I shouldn't have even called my hair gray. It started to "gray" when I was 15 but it skipped that color completely and went from almost black to pure white. By now the contrast shows after about a week. Thanks for the heads up about Delilah. Did you go there for color? -
i went there for corrective color and a haircut only because I needed them to dye parts of my hair that I couldn't see myself. I feel that I could have done better by using a hand mirror and my at-the-time novice coloring skills.
i dont know what color youre currently dying you hair, but you may consider making a move from full gray coverage to gray blending which usually involves a more neutral color (something less harsh than, say, black/dark brown or red) it can help use the resistant grays as more of a highlighting effect without providing 100% full-coverage, and grows out more gracefully. It will at least allow you to get more time between colorings. Honestly, even some of the most gray-phobic clients that I've encountered only color every 3-4 weeks (one woman gets about a half-inch of root growth in 3.5 weeks which is almost double any normal person.) Its really rough on the hair to be retouching that often because you generally overlap a little bit and have to end up emulsifying more frequently because the hair fades at different rates. -
Hi,
My husband is a color specialist at a Madison Ave. salon and yes, it's pretty expensive, but he does clients in their homes after work for less. Each client is different so he works out the price on an individual basis. He's been doing my hair for 7 years and he is very precise. I'm so freaking lucky. Great perk.
We live on the border of PH / PS. He's been very busy lately due to the holidays. I was finally able to mention you to him this AM. If you still need someone, PM me with your name and tel. and I'll pass it along. -
Have you tried Alex at Studio 97? (corner of 9th St and 7Av) He does my roots every few weeks, the cost is about $55. I think he does a very decent job, and I don't leave the place with a ring of visible dye around my hairline.
