good curly cut in the 'hood?

Subject: good curly cut in the 'hood?

Hi all-
Long time reader - first time poster here. I am really diggin' this board and all the P.Heights info!

Anyway - just wondering if anyone knows of a good place in the heights/p. slope that does a good job with thick, curly hair and doesn't cost a ton.

    well I have curly hair... and so far here are the two best opitions that I have found...

    http://www.missjessies.com/ The Curve Salon is crazy expensive... but its worth it.

    I go to Changing Faces on Flatbush Ave/ Prospect the prices are pretty affordable, espically for that area. I love how my hair looks when I leave..

    I used to go to the Time Salon, which is an Aveda Salon but my hair stylist left and went to Changing Faces... so I moved along with her.

    Don't go to Kinky Krowns... I went in there... asked her about how they cut and style hair... and they women who deals with natural hair had an attitude like I was asking her some crazy questions. Plus in general I heard that they don't know what they are doing in here.

    ok, how much is missjessies? you actually went? i really want to go but the website scared me... no prices & the $70 commitment...

    i have extremely curly hair and got to oscar bond in soho b/c they need curly hair models but they know curly hair and this is the best hair cut i ever got::: they cut it dry, they washed it and cut it wet... then rinsed it and cut//styled. cuts are $150-$250 and but being a model is free and the stylists are aveda trained but training "oscar bond" for another year i guess...

    if you have really curly hair and can make it friday morning or wednesday morning, i can PM you the info.

    I would also love the Oscar Bond modeling info. I stopped by Bumble & bumble once for their model call, but they took one look at my curly kinky hair and asked me very nicely to leave.

    My friend went and its like 250 plus for a haircut including the 70 commitment...

    the story of my life... but you couldn't pay me enough to relax my hair!! Kinky all the way!!

    Random question do people try and touch your hair? I was in PA (Wilkes Barre) on a random football trip (don't ask) and the "countryfolk" wanted to touch my hair... freaked me out a bit... couldn't tell if they were being ignorant ... or if they truly were interested...

    jaha - um, YES, people ask to touch my hair ALL THE TIME. while in the past I allowed it on occasion, I ultimately decided this was NOT COOL.

    the most recent incident was with some work colleagues who happened to get on the subway at the same time as me (older ladies). colleague A said, "colleague B wants to know if she can touch your hair!" ugh! I said, "sorry, but I'm not a circus freak."

    A friend of mine went to Monica's on Washington the other day and got a great style. She said she was shocked at how affordable they are.

    Ladies I can sympathize. I recently started locing my hair and usually wear it in a headwrap. The few times I have had my hair "out" people just seem to just want to reach out and touch it. For example, I was on the bus the other day and this lady felt the need to pull on a few of them. When I turned around to go off on her, her response was that "they looked so soft. I just wanted to see how they felt." How would she (and for that matter all the others who reach out and touch someone else's hair) feel if we did that to them. Aaaarrrrggghhh!

    hey, for those people who want the oscar bond info, PM me your email and i will forward the emails to my stylist. i suddenly felt weird about just giving out her email, but i would be more than happy to forward yours..

    also, she just left to go visit her family in japan but will be back in a week or two.
