hi. i'm looking for a matrimonial lawyer and wonder if anyone can offer suggestions or recommendations. google's response to a the searches i've tried is overwhelming, vast, and essentially unhelpful. so i thought i might as well try here instead.

i am female and would prefer a female attorney.

  • "matrimonial lawyer" sounds like a euphemism...
  • Cheesy looking Website, but - from first hand experience - they're great:

    http://www.mediate2resolution.com/
  • divorce lawyer. they call themselves matrimonial lawyers.
  • The top lawyer in the field is Raoul Felder but his wife Myrna is top notch (dare I say, surpasses her hubby in abilities).

One of the best in Brooklyn is Roseanne Branda. Not sure of the entire firm name but she is one of the partners there. Caruso Branda???? Anyway, top notch and was president of the Brooklyn Bar.

Consultations are free - up to you what you want to pay. You can negotiate the hourly rate to some degree but fair warning - hourly rates range anywhere from $150/hr to $500/hr depending on who you chose. The more complex the asset division (also child custody) the more experienced (read expense) the attorney you need.

Sorry you have this need - best of luck. Small joke to get you thru it: Why are divorces so expensive? Because they are worth it!
  • Judy Poller. Pryor Cashman. Amazing.
  • Pryor Cashman is my law firm. Judy Poller is very highly regarded and is extremely experienced.

I did not post about her previously because I didn't want to be in the position of shilling for someone in my office.
  • I am a client and I think she is great. She's done great work - always keeping in mind my kids. My divorce was not easy (meaning, issues continue to come up) and she is really fantastic.
  • My former colleague who is usually not happy with most people has nothing but raves for Patricia Ferrari of Fox Rothschild, even years later: http://www.foxrothschild.com/attorneys/bioDisplay.aspx?id=2768

Patricia is pricey but, I recommended someone to her, and because Patricia thought that her services would be overkill for this guy's basic divorce, she referred him to her less pricey but equally-skilled colleague. I would say that she's worth a call to discuss the issues (hell, a call is free).

    Good luck.
  • Elaine McKnight handled my divorce....well. 718-858-7440.

    She's great. Good luck.
  • if it's not contested, get the cheapest available. if messy, go with any of the above.
