Which is the best car service?
There was a time when Arecibo was the love of my life, then she started making me wait around, and at times, she never showed up at all. But then Evelyn was there to pick up the pieces, even though I had left her so many years before because she broke down or was rude. But now she's different. She's shiny and prompt and always knows just what to say (2 minutes). I've seen others, on Washington, on the side streets, and I'm never sure of what to make of them.

I love Evelyn. CLose+always available, not cheap, though. She'll go anywhere, even the depths of Bushwick, where she rescued me after I bought a used computer, and couldn't get it back with any other service. Thank you, Evelyn! :P

Subject: 7th Ave Car Service
I've been using 7th Ave. car service for years, on the recommendation of a friend in Park Slope. 718-965-4242. I can't say I've ever had any serious problems. A closer car service might send out a car faster, but I've found 7th Ave is consistently one of the less expensive options out there. -

For reals? I used to live on 7th avenue and that place was always so expensive. Maybe they've changed, I don't know. I think some investigation may be necessary. -
Subject: International - not bad
This AM, 7th Ave. Car Service quoted me a 45-minute wait, so I took a chance on International (Wash Ave., 718-230-8484).
Got picked up, as promised, in about 5 minutes, by a beat-up (and still not warmed-up) minivan. I asked how much to 70th. My Ecuadorian driver said, "how much do you usually pay?" Hmm. $28? "OK." No wait, that's the JFK rate. How about $25? "OK! No problem." Also, the guy really knew how to work the exits. He offered to wait around and take me back, but I just took a cab, which with tip was $25, so my guesstimate wasn't off by too much.
So not bad, but as Isa said, "Evelyn has been pretty good lately and their cars are nice and big and smell like cologne and air freshener." -

Any thoughts on Brownstone (on Union St just up from Tea Lounge)? -

Coming to this discussion late, but...
We gave up on 7th Ave after the experience we had going to NYU Medical Center for my wife to give birth. The driver (whose gender we are to this day unsure of) was merrily driving by NYU, screeches to a halt in the middle of the street, screams at us for not giving better directions and insists we get out there. Wife is due to deliver and I'm on crutches having had surgery on two broken ankles a week or so prior. Oh year, we loved that experience.
We like Continental - they've improved greatly over the years. I remember when they asked you to sit up front for rides to the airport because the cars didn't have TLC plates. And one of the drivers shared a joint with a friend of mine (his, not hers) on the ride back into Manhattan.
Legends is about the only place you can consistently get a car seat, if that's important to you. -
Subject: International and Evelyn top my list
International and Evelyn are always pretty prompt. Not always but mostly. Arecibo is my third call when Int and Ev are busy. -
Subject: Arecibo
Has Arecibo changed hands? Sometimes the car never comes to pick me up or else the dispatcher lies and tells me that the driver mistakenly picked up a different customer.
