The Mildred, 925 Union Street

That stretch of Union Street bears the heaviest traffic load in the entire neighborhood. Personally I would avoid it. Perhaps a high floor or back facing apt would be okay.
-
yea, I live on the opposite corner. You don't want to face Union St.
-
lots of honking by drivers who want to get through the light at GAP
-
Why are you focusing on the streets around GAP? Nothing wrong w/the area, just wondering. Is it a short walk to the 2/3 that you value? Welcome to the boards and please explain that username!

Well, you won't be my favorite atheist nun (I already have one of those, for reals) but I'll tell you anyway to check the condition of the apartment carefully. Some of them in that building are in pretty bad shape, some of them are excellent.

Don't know much about the building, but that block is godawful. If you find a great deal, I would only consider something near the back and NOT on Union St. unless you love diesel fumes and constant honking.

Subject: Noisy Union (that was not meant to sound dirty)
Thanks for your thoughts, all. The apartment I am interested in faces the back, so noise is not a big issue. But I have noticed the heavy traffic on that block from buses and cars.
I like GAP because it is close to the 2/3 and the Q as well as shops in both Park Slope and Prospect Heights. I work at Methodist Hospital, so the walk to work would be very pleasant. -
I don't want to live on that strip, but I know several folks who do (not that building) and they all seem to really like the location, fwiw. The proximity to the park and farmer's market are fantastic.

We used to live in the building on the corner of Plaza Street and Union Street. We faced Plaza Street, so I cannot comment on noise or exhaust gases on Union Street, but I can confirm what OQ said about the location. It is a really nice place to live... a short walk not only to the park and the farmer's market, but also to the main library, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Botanic Gardens.

I used to live on Union Street between 7th and 8th. Granted, I was closer to 7th, but the traffic never bothered me. Some of those old brownstones have great big, thick walls that insulate the apartment from too much noise. Now that I think about it, that fat ass, lunatic gym teacher that lived above me made much more noise. God how she made my life miserable.
Location is great. Good luck nun.
