Quick! How much to tip painters? — Brooklynian

Quick! How much to tip painters?

edited November -1 in Park Slope
They were here for 3 days about 7 hours per day), painted 3 rooms, 1 bathroom, and a loooong hallway, did a great job. There are two of them. What would be an appropriate tip?

Comments

  • Give them both a blow job.
  • 50 bucks each? If you think they gave you a really good price for the job, maybe 75 each... hope that helps!
  • tell them about brooklynian, they'll be thankful for you showing them such a treasure trove of information.... they're losers, right?
  • You tip painters? No, I'm really asking.
  • Seriously, no tipping.

You needed painting - they said they'd paint X for $$$ - you pay $$$ - they paint X - everyone goes home happy.

    No need for tips.

You wouldn't tip a plumber, would you?
  • If the painter is the owner of the business I wouldn't tip - but if it's the owner's workers I would definitely tip (and I would do the same with a plumber).
  • No tip.
  • This is Park Slope - the best neighborhood in the that galaxy. You have to at least give them a handjob.

I am on the same page here and that is how I decide a tip is appropriate for a painter, plumber or electrician.
  • I am NOT on the same page here... why the hell does everything need a tip??!

They should charge the right amount.

    this.

    more or less.

i didn't tip the guys that delivered my stove, fridge, and dishwasher but only because there was a surprise charge to bring the stuff upstairs when they arrived.
which suspiciously could only be paid in cash.

WTF? Do you know what it takes to be a plumber and how much plumbers earn? More than you think, obviously... that's like tipping an electrician... a painter is more of a gray area - I wouldn't tip them, personally, but a tradesman? You're cracked if you think they're livin' on tips.

    bwahahahahaha

You need to give me the square footage because that is a stupid long time.

My whole apartment was done in 1 day. Amazing job.
    living room
    bedroom
    kitchen
    dining room
    foyer

The walls kinda suck in the apt, so making straight lines for corners is tough. They free handed it! I was amazed lol

It was just 2 guys and pretty hot that day. I bought them a pie of pizza and kept the AC on. Then I think i gave them both $20 each on top of that. But they did it all in one day.

Oh, and these were the workers, NOT the owner.

    Owners dont get tips.
  • Wouldn't the correct message board answer here be "why didn't you just paint yourself, lazyass?" ;)

I'm joking. I'd have given them about $20-$40 apiece. No millionaires in the painting game.
