Wow. Between the street patrols launched for the iPhone guy on Park Place in Prospect Heights, and the current investigative reporting on this thread, we have the makings of a great detective agency!
Btw, if there are any Con Ed workers on this site I'd like to run a part/serial number by you.
I'm still curious why the original author wants to know about this particular location, and does this thread have anything to do with the Eastern Parkway Antenna thread on the Crown Heights board:

With your peak-cap you look like a captain of crew of an ocean vessel from Brighton Beach whose left eye is nervously and randomly twitches because of having too much vodka))) ha-ha-ha. That what I consider as humor))) Please, do not take offence) Ok? -

no offense taken, i'm familiar with Russian humor, it's simple and not as caustic as american .
the photo you assumed is me , is Boris, a family friend who defected from the KGB many years ago, by the way, it's his right eye that twitches , not his left, but i guess there is no right in Mother Russia.
he has been working as a superintendent in the building you are enquiring about, loves his job and spends his evenings sitting in the boiler room drinking vodka, strumming his Balalaika, yes, i did say, strumming his Balalaika and listening to Yakov Smirnoff and watching The Brothers Karamazov over and over.
when he saw the photo of his building, he was devastated, as he's convinced the KGB has finally tracked him down and will do harm to him and his family.
now, thanks to you, both his eyes are twitching out of control.
i would like to have him PM you, as you may be able to convince him the KGB is not looking for him.
once assured , i'm sure he'll invite you to his home, where both of you can sit in his boiler room and strum your Balalaikas. -

You, me and your poor defective eyed friend might gather for sitting in his boiler room all together.
In this boiler room you and your a family friend might train me how to drink our Russian vodka and play Russian balalaika) Because I am not able to do neither that nor another.
We also can read the novel The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevskii.
As to KGB I do not know that this such and I cannot tell you anything about this. -
Glad we could help!
I'd never seen short buildings with wraparound balconies in Gravesend, but I've seen plenty of that architecture in Sheepshead Bay, and the lighting/low skyline indicated water. So hubby looked around with Google Maps satellite view, and there it was. Now cmon, give us a hard one

I mentioned your suggestion to Boris and his face became scarlet red, his eyes stopped twitching and he bellowed NYET!
When i asked, what's the problem , he stated their are many reasons and mentioned the following.
real Russian men do not allow strangers to come to their boiler rooms , drink their vodka and stum their Balalaika.
if a Russian says he does not drink vodka, that is a lie, as vodka is Russia's answer to mothers milk.
anyone that claims they do not know who the KGB is, is KGB
as he prefers the film over the book, he feels having you read The Brothers Karazamov with him, would cause him to be known as ,The Idiot,in the community.
sorry it didn't work out. -

I think you know even more than me about Russian culture, history, the natives and their habits.
But from your permission I will try to inform to you the following,
The majority of simple Russians do not know anything certain about KGB organisation. And they never even held balalaika in their hands during all their lives. For the majority of simple Russian KGB and the balalaika - is exotic.
And only very small part of Russian people is familiar with excellent literary works of the all over the world famous Russian classical writers. Now Russian people practically do not read the classics, and the young generation does not read books in general. It is a shame, especially that the Russian classical literature is considered the best in the world.
From everything that you have written here only alcohol drinking theme is actual for modern Russia. Many Russian people cannot even imagine their lives without any alcohol drinks. It`s a big national trouble.
From myself I can add that in Russia there is one more very serious problem that is a smoking in public places and on work.
I wish to thank all those who has written in my topic.
And it is very interesting to me to communicate with Americans. -
^please don't think that communicating with Hamilton is typical of communicating with Americans. If so, I apologize on behalf of our country :-)

Hi, since this is a thread about asking what place..
can i ask where in new york area was the godfather scenes was shot? Is it near brooklyn? Thanks! -
I believe Long Island near the 878 or Meadowbrook. Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island, but no Brooklyn, except for the story-line.
-
Viktor,
I do not know the specific address of that building or the street. However, I would venture to say the photo was taken while someone was riding the elevated subway. Perhaps someone who rides those lines may be able to identify the address of that particular area.
Howdy, Stranger!
