Motorcycle parking in the Slope — Brooklynian

Motorcycle parking in the Slope

Hello all,

Looking for some reasonable and secure parking for a motorcycle in PS. I'm in south slope near 4th ave / 11th st and looking for something closeby that doesn't cost me my first born.

Last year i parked on the street and some a-hole knocked over the bike. To keep me from assaulting someone this year i'd like to get it off the street when not in use.

Thanks all

  • I'd give Nelsons Hawg House a call , they're just below 3rd ave at 140 12th st ,718-788-5558.
I'm sure they can help you find a space.
  • If leaving your bike outside (but not on the street) is an option, see if you can find an unused area/spot on private property where you can park it.

--such "spots" are often beside the garden areas that line the sidewalks.

Then, approach the super of the building and offer a season "fee" to leave your bike there. Put a cover over it to discourage parts theives. ....$100 in cash is tough to pass up.

During the winter most M/C dealerships have a place where they will store it for the whole season. Prospect Cycles (on Coney Island Ave) charges something like $400 to store a bike from Oct - April.
  • Can't help with parking resources, but I will suggest you join the New York Motorcycle and Scooter Task Force - developing better parking solutions for motorcycles and scooters is a big part of what the group is working on right now.
  • I've been parking my bike on the street for the last couple weeks near 5th and union, hasn't been knocked over yet (cross fingers). Need to look into the garden parking option that whynot suggested.
  • You may already be aware of this, but Craigslist has a whole section for parking spot rental (under housing): http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/prk/

I've been researching scooter parking and I found it was pretty easy to search the section for motorcycle or scooter parking in Park Slope. I haven't gotten the scooter though (yet!), so I have no experience to share on finding a spot this way. If you do, let us know. Good luck!
