bedbugs in my building
there are bedbugs in my building, but not in my apartment. apparently management knows; apparently there's a tenant who won't let anyone into his apartment and whose apartment is thought to be a major problem in terms of vermin in general; apparently this fight began long before i moved in and various legal steps have been taken by various tenants and perhaps even one lawsuit won...so, apparently, there is nothing i can do in the way of informing authorities.
is there anything i can do to keep my apartment insulated? i have a small dog who i'd rather not poison.
F****! F*** F*** F***!

instead of wasting like 5k like i did, http://www.bedbugsupply.com/JT-Eaton-Kills-BedBugs-II-40residual41_p_43.html#
few hundred bucks those professionals don't do that much but spray.
also if you want you can borrow my packtite for the tenant who has the bedbug problem. she never put it together. she had them in her old apartment before. -
Go to R&A on 5th ave across from Key Foods. They have bed bug spray you can use. Just lock up the pup until it dries.
Cleanliness is your first defense. Make sure sheets, pillows, comforters, sofa coverings etc.. and laundry is always clean. Keep an eye out for little brown-red spots on fabric. Do a search here on brooklynian, there was a very long page on bedbugs with tons of useful info.
Thank god I've never had to deal with them, the horror stories I've heard! -
Someone has to grow a pair an confront the problem tenant. Apparently.
-
I'm with DR. Surely there is a way to deal with this, even if it's kicking the tenant out.

I took precautions because we had a similar problem in my building. Look for signs around the bed. Eggs look like poppy seeds and if you have bites or see blood on your bedding then you've got them. Bed bugs don't usually travel that far from their hosts but can go for months without eating. Cold doesn't affect them.
1. Get the special bed bug proof covers for your mattress and box spring and all of your pillows. Expensive but they can't penetrate in or out.
2. Have your carpets cleaned professionally.
3. There are fabric steamers and you can steam the cracks between floor and walls. Bed bugs & their eggs die at temperatures above 120 degrees. Also you can steam any furniture especially anything with cracks. Try to seal up cracks. Bed bugs love cracks.
4, Wash your bedding and make sure the dryer is on maximum heat. In fact any time you use the dryer use it at maximum.
5. Check your closets.
6. If your bed has legs put double sided tape around each leg and just below you can also spread some petroleum jelly as a double preventative. This also works in hotel rooms.
7. If you travel don't store your suitcases in your bedroom at home without carefully investigating them. It's almost a guarantee that every hotel has bed bugs. -

Right, ok, sure... that must be true.
Might I also suggest duct tapping your asshole shut each night before you sleep at a Holiday Inn... Just to be safe. -

I think the bedbugs are just as happy drinking your blood from your arms or legs without having to venture up your [shudder] asshole.
Hotels have a huge bedbug problem because 1) they won't shut the whole place down to treat an infestation and will only treat a room at a time when a patron complains about it, and 2) bedbugs are more common overall because we've banned most pesticides we used to use to combat them.
So while I'm sure it was very satisfying to make your bizarre joke, there is some truth to what youbetcha said--you should definitely check your hotel/motel room for bedbugs as soon as you check in, and use that folding stand to put your luggage on. Check behind the headboard (a favorite nest for bedbugs) and lift the mattress to check for dried blood and dead bedbugs. -
Actually, you have to tape up your asshole for all the trannies that lurk in hotels.
Also there is zero truth to the statement that "It's almost a guarantee that every hotel has bed bugs." Zero. In fact, it's probably more accurate to say it's almost a guarantee that any given hotel does NOT have beg bugs.
I've stayed in hundreds of hotel rooms... I know people that sleep in hotels 100 nights a year, and guess what? No bed bugs.. none. Zero. -
wait, um, guys? preventive measures? do i really have to do all the stuff that opossum queen suggested? for instance, do i really have to get my carpets cleaned if i don't have bugs (yet). of course, if i they come, i'll get every damn thing cleaned. and burn off a layer of my own skin with acid, to be safe.

I'm not sure if you have to do all of those preventative measures (maybe you do), but I agree that if there is a tenant known to have bedbugs, the rest of the tenants have to gang up and force a way to get that situation addressed before it spreads throughout the building because from everything I heard it is a flipping nightmare once you've got them and super expensive too. I'm not saying you take him out behind the alley and scare the shit out of him but....um.... maybe a little "talking to" is in order.

Bedbugs are known to hide in your walls, they get in around the electrical outlets, and only come out to feed at night. Call a pro.
