Many others have been wondering the same thing. I'm beginning to think that they will never open.

Do you have an actual address? SWO can be verified having been lifted or not via DOB BIS. -

It's 601 Vanderbilt. DOB says they still have two open violations ( http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/PropertyProfileOverviewServlet?boro=3&houseno=601&street=Vanderbilt+Ave&go2=+GO+&requestid=0 ). -
Seems to be a history of hostility between the residential tenants and whatever commercial tenant there is. The ventilation violation was no doubt called in by the residential tenants. I suspect the Paquena might not have known the hostile situation and attempted to run their kitchen vent without an approved plan and no permit pulled possibly hoping to claim it was preexisting and grandfathered, in collusion with the owner especially since there is no C of O, therefore permission to be a restaurant would be granted given there is a history of restaurants/bars/adult clubs in the space. It's certainly possible to get away with that but the residential side should have been greased. New venting for kitchen exhaust and/or fresh air these days can often be a real deal breaker thanks to new DOB regs.
Interesting that the penalty was paid and the violation has not been cleared i.e. removal of the offending duct.

I was thinking the same thing other day when i went for a sunny afternoon burrito. I tried to order a Carnitas burrito and was told they don't serve pork. So I put 2 and 2 together and realized if they're not serving pork, they sure won't be serving up beer.
I think Paquena has a good shot of taking over if my assumptions are correct regarding the No Pork = No Beer. -
Ahhh...the old ham in the cooler thing.
-
correct.
http://mayataqueria.com/
Meat: Carne/Pollo Asada (Grilled Steak/Chicken), Rajas (Grilled chicken w/onions & peppers), Shredded Beef, Shredded Chicken in red, green or Mole sauce
Vegetables/Beans: Grilled corn, Sauteed Mushrooms, Sauteed Spinach and Hominy, Sauteed Tofu, Refried Beans, Pinto Beans, Black Beans
So, will the good people of PH be loyal to "cheap and good food" they are familiar with? ...or be willing to pay more for a venue that might someday open, but will feature beer and pork?
Riveting questions.... -
So far I didn't find Maya's food to be loyalty-inspiring. I hope Paquena is better. The beer and pork will just be a bonus.
-
I loved Maya for a while -- and then their prices went up by $2 each item and now it's just good food for an acceptable price. Before it was good food for a good price -- if paquena ever opens, the prices can't be too much higher and they'll be sit down with beer.
-
I didn't notice Maya Taqueria's prices go up - I like their food..... I wonder if the owners are Muslim and that's why they don't serve pork?
Anyone know? -
Can't they just move the ventilation fan to face another way where it won't bother people?

Local lore and legend tells of great prosperity and happiness for those who respect and honor El Carneviento:
