FRANKLIN PARK READING SERIES -- MAY 10, 8-10PM
The May 10 edition of our fun and friendly reading series is for radicals, seekers and believers (and their friends).
DAVID GOODWILLIE exposes the chilling world of underground radicals in his prescient and widely acclaimed new novel AMERICAN SUBVERSIVE. If you're wondering who's behind mysterious oil rig and mine explosions -- not to mention an SUV bomb in Times Square -- the answer, Goodwillie's novel suggests, may be home-grown terrorists.
DANI SHAPIRO reveals her spiritual odyssey in her latest memoir, DEVOTION. Shapiro is the author of the iconic, bestselling memoir SLOW MOTION and a renown writing teacher who's taught at some of today's leading programs -- including Columbia, NYU, the New School, Bennington, and Wesleyan.
Storyteller ELICIA BERGER describes the paradoxes of her Vietnamese-American and Jewish heritage.
HEATHER KRISTIN recounts a gritty Hell's Kitchen upbringing by a Christian fundamentalist mother.
As always, this can't miss event is FREE and we'll have DRINK SPECIALS.
Can't wait to see you!

How do ya'll pick what books to read? Speaking of American terrorists I would love to review the Unabomber's manifesto -- which is great reading by the way...
-
MHA , you should come to the reading and talk to David.
He's probably well-versed in the Unabomber's work, since he did exhaustive research in preparing this book.
As far as book selection, we look for good writing, gripping stories and authors who can connect with audiences. -
Do you receive financial support from Alcoa?
...the company that has the most to gain from people wearing tin foil hats.
FP and Alcoa, that's the real conspiracy. -
What???
-
Franklin Park secretly takes money from Alcoa to host the reading series.
...Alcoa makes all the money back by selling tin foil, which people use to ward off the aliens.
It all makes perfect sense.
(if you huff glue)
On a serious note, I hear the reading series is pretty good fun. -
The reading series is fun, and so far no one's gone crazy from being there. Check it out...
-
Actually why_not31, tin-foil hats are used to catch illegal aliens....
Glue sniffing, you see, is the drug of choice amongst poor undocumented workers form Mexico after all. We need to wear tin-foil hats to find them so that we can get them to stop buying all the glue. Their addiciton raises the price of glue and makes legitimate glue-use cost prohibitive.
Once we've done that, the world will be a better place. -
TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT! 8-10, in the big bar (enter through Dutch Boy).
It's FREE, and one of our headliners, DAVID GOODWILLIE, just got a rave review in yesterday's Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/09/books/review/Watrous-t.html?ref=books
If that's not enough to get you out on a Monday night, well, how about $4 beers on tap exclusively for reading series attendees?
Looking forward to seeing you!
