transgender children in nyc private schools

Fifteen years ago, I arrived for my first day of fifth grade as a boy instead of a girl and was met with shock, horror, and resistance. Fifteen years later, I'm looking for NYC parents of transgendered or gender-fluid private elementary schoolers willing to talk about their experiences for an article I'm working on. For more info, email me at: transyouthnycschools [at] gmail [dot [com]. Thank you!

  • i don't have any leads for you, but i'd love to read this article when it runs. i hope you'll post a link or notice here.
  • "gender fluid?"

    oh boy
  • Thank you for your courage and commitment to the transgender community. While I am not transgender, or even gay, I am so very grateful to live in a world where we don't have to be chained to gender stereotypes! Hooray!
  • ^ :-s :?:
  • I found this online:

Gender Fluid is a gender identity best described as a dynamic mix of boy and girl. A person who is Gender Fluid may always feel like a mix of the two traditional genders, but may feel more boy some days, and more girl other days.

Being Gender Fluid has nothing to do with which set of genitalia one has, nor their sexual orientation.

No, I'm not a boy, and I'm not a girl either. I am gender fluid.
  • and to think I'd always thought "gender fluid" was something that wasn't able to talked about in polite conversation....
  • Subject: I am gender fluid!

I am gender fluid. Gender fluid is the ability to transition between 2 or more genders and at times be a "mix" of more than one gender at a time. Gender fluidity is a subset of people who are bigendered and multigendered. Many bi/multi-gendered individuals transition from one gender to the other, 100%. If they are multi-gendered and fluid, then those genders are sometimes "mixed", and perhaps even change into a different "mix" at another point.

I am trigendered. I am also fluid gendered. Therefore I am a fluid trigendered individual.

I have a blog where I talk more about these issues.

  • I have no doubt you accurately describe yourself. ...and welcome to brooklyian.

My comments stem from previously defining "gender fluid" more in terms of sperm and vaginal secretions.

...redefining this term may be difficult. I guess it is all about context.

For example, I'll have to pay close attention when people talk.

"He is gender fluid" now means something much different than "his gender fluid".
  • I assume you'd already talked to the folks at Harvey Milk/Hetrick Martin institute? Have you contacted the LGBT Center, Ali Forney House, or FIERCE?
