Bike stolen

Hey all

My bike was stolen over the weekend. Any ideas where stolen bikes go to be sold? Looking at craigslist and eBay. Maybe places around the hood. Thanks.

  • To a certain extent, it depends on the type of bike, but it couldn't hurt to check with local shops including Ride Brooklyn on Bergen, R&A on 5th Ave, Dixon's on Union , On the Move on 7th Ave, and Brooklyn Bikes on 9th st and 6th ave.

Bad guys aren't usually that patient, but there's also a bike flea market in two weeks. http://nybikejumble.com/

    Good luck
  • I've seen people trying to sell bikes to restaurants for the delivery guys.
  • Just out of interest, where was it stolen from? And what kind of lock (if any) did you use?

What kind of bike is it? Do you have a picture? Both can be posted on craigslist as well as a reward offer. Sorry to hear. good luck. Couple of great beat down videos on youtube. Best one is a bike thief on the LES who finds that he should change hobbies
  • Morning - actually it was stolen from inside the apt building, storage room.
Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to email the local shops to let them know. Probably not going to show up to be sold online, I assume it will be a quick sell nearby.

By the way, props to the 77th pct cops. They were super cool and helpful. I didn't think they would even react to the incident of a stolen bike, but they were actually concerned and did some head shaking. Not expecting the cops to track down my bike, they were happy to fill out the report and talk with us all. Good guys, so thanks to them.
  • If you have any pic of the bike or you on the bike from any event or whatever, print out a few and write in your contact and hand deliver to the bike shops or place you think it might be sold at (any local delivery joints?)

They can call you if someone tries to sell your bike to them. Good luck!
  • Subject: Stolen bike registry

You can post a notice on Brooklyn Bike & Board's stolen bike registry. http://brooklynbikeandboard.com/register-a-stolen-bike/
  • Thanks for the link - that is nice of Brooklyn Bike and Board to set that up. Not sure how much good it will do unless someone tries to sell the bike to them.

By the way, here is a picture of the bike in case someone saw it in the hood.
