FORNINO opening this Friday

The bar at least has been open for two nights now. Not sure if they are serving food or not. Looking forward to trying it.
-
they were open tonight, and it's awesome! the grilled pizza is definitely different, but it's real good.
-
Anyone have any other specific recommendations from the menu?
-
I haven't tried it yet, but I looked at the menu and upon reading it I climaxed a little bit in my pants.
I guess it's just that new restaurants opening in Park Slope get me so excited... looks like the 'hood is really starting to come into its own. We now have a mildly upscale pizza place - directly across the street from another mildly upscale pizza place. -
We went last night but here as an hour and a half wait for a table...we'll try it another time

Dinner there last night was outstanding. They've only been open a week, but managed very well. Had wonderful arugula salad with roasted pear and gorgonzola. It was well-dressed. The prosciutto and asparagus pizza was delish and pretty. Yeah, pretty pizza. "Grilled" shrimp app so so. Liked the beans and dressing, but those shrimp were blah and I think boiled not grilled. Great selection of local beers on tap. Will def go back. No room for dessert but the selection was tempting. Sound level good and service a little slow but charming.

Best response EVAH from 'Julio Allison' = "Oh, fuck your kids". I love you, Julio
*sigh*
-
I HAVE kids and I love his response.
Am I "Old Park Slope" in that I kinda took my kids to places I could sense would be okay with everybody (owners, patrons, kids and myself), rather than imposing my extremely gifted and gorgeous children on places? -
Living in Park Slope and whining about kids is like living in Coney Island and complaining about the ocean breezes. Can't stand kids? Move to a shitty school district, ya grumpy dumbass.

What's so great about the schools around here? One afternoon on 7th Ave should demonstrate to anyone that the Park Slope schools aren't exactly churning out tomorrow's leaders. :? -

Yeah, they should be hanging out on neighborhood message boards. -
How big are the pizzas? Is one good enough for 2 adults or are they personal sized?
-
Personal. Had one last night & loved it. They're crispy enough that you can hold a slice up like it's a piece of toast.
-
A pizza place has to have a kids menu? Um, isn't pizza already a kids food?
-
I honestly get a boner at my desk every time I hear about this new pizza place in park slope.... Seriously, a rock hard boner.
Pizza. Yum. -

I will take your word for it. I think most of the rest of the board will not require proof either

You know what they say about those who talk about it (constantly)...... -
We ate here last night. The pizza was fantastic. One was a good size for 2 people as a light meal with a beer.
And for the baby haters:
We brought our baby. They are SUPER family friendly, without making it a family joint. What do I mean by that? A highchair was ready and waiting at our table, so I didn't have to hold my 14 month old over your head at your table while she pulled on your hat as we waited 10 minutes for a highchair to finally be brought over. They took my stroller for me at the door and stored it in a closet, so I didn't have to carry it and fold it up and bang it into your table as I tried to find a way to store it underneath ours. Our order came out lickety-split, so you didn't have to listen to my hungry baby banging on our table while you enjoyed your martini. Tables are spaced far apart, so you could avoid my baby giving you the cuteness if you so wished. If more restaurants were on their game this way, (and so soon after opening!), my baby would be MUCH less irritating to you. You may even want to reproduce yourself, if you knew you could do it and still enjoy a Fornino's pizza from time to time. -
Went on Friday night. Overall, a very good experience, with a few caveats.
Wait was about 45 minutes, but bar space was good. Mixed drinks run about $9 each and are not worth it. They're very simplistic and just not very tasty. I was very much missing the Maple Manhattan at Tempo while sitting at the bar. Stick to beer or wine.
Apps were great. We were a party of three and had the whole artichoke and chickpea fries. Both were extremely tasty. Pizza was excellent. The crust is almost cracker-like in both thinness and crisp, making it a different experience than most neighborhood pizzerias. It's a step above the likes of Franny's to me, which is just desperately trying to be upscale New Haven-style. Three pizzas at the table - all very good. I'm going to specifically crave this pizza in a way I only crave a few others (L&B, Adrienne's) in NYC.
There were definitely kinks. Everything took a bit longer than it should, runners not knowing which table was which, dropped food, etc. What made it tolerable was that the staff handled it all with a high level of professionalism. Not only were we comped our drinks but, also, two desserts for the table. The donuts and panna cotta were very good. That's how you get me to forgive some kinks.
There were definitely kids running around......even at 9:00 PM on a Friday night, but this is the place they almost burned down because there wasn't kiddie pizza specified on the menu. Going to have to live with it, I guess.
I'd say it's an instant hit and a worthy successor to Tempo and Cucina in that space. It's going to get even better once they get their act together. If I was La Villa, I'd be losing a lot of sleep right now.. -
Went Saturday about 7 o'clock. The place was packed with a wait but we lucked out and got the two remaining seats at the bar. Had a nice, crisp wheat beer and ordered some apps.
The wife had the grilled shrimp over white beans, which we saw someone else eating and it looked delicious. It wasn't that great. It's a cold entree, which is strange when you're dealing with grilled shrimp. They looked sort of desiccated. And the beans were a bit too al dente. The sauce surrounding them tasted like watered down Bullseye BBQ.
I had the chicken liver on toast. Again it was not what I was expecting. I was expecting whole livers on toast. It was actually a pate in a jar. A nice presentation but if it’s a pate call it a pate. It was a generous portion. I needed more bread than the two hardened toasts I got so they gave me some delicious foccacia.
All right, so the apps were underwhelming. What about the pizza? I had the classic margherita and the wife has the spinach and pine nuts. Both were delicious. Unlike any pizza I’ve ever had before. The crust is almost like a super crispy pita. The marinara sauce was exquisitely sweet and the cheese a creamy delight. My wife loved her spinach slice but I really loved the margherita. We took a couple slices home but one pizza probably isn’t big enough for two people. I will say that when I had a slice later it lost a lot of crunch and the crust was almost like cardboard. Makes me wonder how it would survive delivery.
All in all. A pretty good experience but if I wanted classic Brooklyn pizza I’d go to Lucali’s or DiFara’s. But for our nabe it’s good. Not quite as good as Toby’s which I think is the best in the hood (until Lucali’s South Slope opens…maybe before the 2nd Avenue subway line). -
Toby's???
