How much is too much?

Frankly, if you can afford it.. that is a reasonable rent for you. I assume you have actually SEEN the apartment and have seen comparable apartments here and made a decision that this is the neighborhood where you want to live. Is that rent a bargain? Probably not but you are looking in an area of NYC that is prime real estate.

Off topic, but hello from a former Rochester resident (from age 7 to age 22) and long time Park Slope resident.
Welcome to a very different lifestyle! -
I have seen it and others. It's a nice place and location. From my search the rent seemed fair for what it is but I appreciate a native's confirmation.
Yeah, Rochester to NYC will be quite a change. I trust Brooklyn offers more than 60 days of sunshine a year. I am an Ann Arbor, MI, transplant, then Rochester for the last 9 years.
On topic, I welcome more "that rent is fair" confirmations. Throw in a few "that's very fair rent" replies and I can show family and friends proof I am not completely mad out of my mind.
Thanks for the replies so far. -
Hey no matter what anyone says.. your friends and family in Rochester (or any other none prime area) will still think your nuts paying that kind of rent! Lol!

You are not at all out of your mind......I would assume that for that price the apartment is in fairly nice condition with bathrooms and kitchen that have been redone sometime in the past 10 years. Do you have access to the garden?
You are paying of course for location: near the park is going to be higher rent than near 4th Avenue, but the rent you are paying is reasonable - not some sweetheart deal, but reasonable. I am a former Slope real estate broker, and as short as 2 or 3 years ago an apartment like you described, in good condition, would have gone for $3500 - $3700. Some apartments of that size even went for $4000+ if they had really fancy kitchen/baths.
If you like the apartment, I say go for it. You can't get real estate advice from people who don't know anything about the area or rents here. -
Check out www.rentometer.com! You enter the address, price, and bedroom #, and they show you where your price falls in relation to similar apartments nearby.

$3200 is reasonable for 3BR anywhere in the Slope, any floor, elevator or walkup. My mortgage on a 2BR 1bath is $800 less but...
-
As long as you have an annual income of over $130,000... you're fine.

I hope you are a bunch of hot chicks.
Howdy, Stranger!
