  • any one??
anyone tried the place on 5th ave and 1st/2nd sts?
  • Yes! It's called Dhaga. I have very little eyebrow to begin with, so it's rather easy to take a little "too much off the top". They've been the best I've found, in Brooklyn or lower Manhattan.
  • oooh really? that would be wonderful as i really don't wanna have to trek out to 14th in the east village every two weeks!

    thanks so much!
  • I've not been too happy with the results I got from Dhaga, though very happy with the price and treatment. The woman there just didn't listen when I said I had been growing out my brows and wanted to keep them thick and long. She made them much too thin and it took 2 months for them to grow back. I finally bit the bullet and started going to Unique Threading in Manhattan, where they all do a consistently better job of listening and shaping. Since they only charge $6 for eyebrow threading, I can sort of justify the subway fare.
  • How much does threading at Dhaga cost?

I used to do the $6 threading when my schedule too me to Manhattan more frequently than it does now. I'd love to find a good, local place.
  • thank you pamphillia... very good to know... arg! maybe i'll need to keep going into manhattan... hm.
  • I went to Dhaga today for eyebrow threading. The threading was fine and relatively painless (sometimes threading hurts more than others - not sure if it's the thickness of the string or the skill of the threader), but I didn't really care for the lady who did it (there were 2 women - this was the one without the head scarf). There was something really "off" about her personality.......hard to really explain the nuance, but sort of condescending .I started by saying "please don't use any lotion (because it irritates my skin - I prefer no powder or lotion) and she was kind of nasty when she said "I would never do that without asking". Um. Okay. It has happened to me in the past, so I thought that politely telling her in advance was fine....anyway.....As I was holding my eyebrow, I let go because I thought she gave me "the tap" indicating I should let go. She then said "I didn't say let go". Um. Okay. Finally, when I tipped her - I gave her over 20 % and she knew it because she was giving me change at the register and I told her how much to give me back (as opposed to me curling up some bills and putting them in her hand or her table) and she didn't even acknowledge it or say "thank you".

Meh. I'll go when it's not convenient for me to go into the city, but they certainly didn't score any points in the customer service department.
  • I've been getting my brows waxed at D'Mai for years, but I didn't want to spend the 20 bucks + tip this weekend, so I went to Dhaga for my first threading experience and I loved it. I have thick brows and I like to keep the natural arch and told her so--she listened and did them perfectly. I had to pluck a few strays when I got home, but well worth the 8 bucks. I'm looking forward to a $16 wash and blowout for a party I have to attend this month.
  • I just went back and had a much better experience this time....although it didn't start off that way. I walked in and stood there for at least 2-3 minutes until somebody asked if they could help me. That place is teeny tiny and there were 3 people working there - so it's not like you don't notice that somebody is just standing there waiting.

However, things got better because this time a woman named Rosie did my brows and had none of the attitude of the other woman (who was also there, doing somebody else's brows and ignoring me standing waiting). She did a good job and was not snotty like the other woman.

For lack of better description - Rosie is the smaller, younger one as compared to the other woman (who is large(r) and wears a ton of eye makeup)
