Apartment Hunting
I am looking for a 1 bedroom apartment in the crown heights, prospect park, possibly flatbush area for between 1000 and 1200 a month. I used to love in the Jewish hospital on Franklin and Classon and I am looking for a similarly newly renovated building with elevator but I want more space for my money.
Am I siking myself out by looking in this price range or do u think this possible? What areas do u suggest?

Check yelp.com for agencies.
for example, cooper and cooper has all 5 stars -
Woodruff Ave near the park. Huge apartments.

I see that there are a lot of apartments around Nostrand renting in crown heights and there are some really cheap apartments (like 1050/mth) renting around the suny downstate area in flatbush. How are those areas?
-
U should take a day off and check some of the areas out

I wouldn't want to live in the Suny Downstate area because there's nothing going on in the evenings and few places to go eat/drink. But that's because that's what I'm looking for. I pay 1200 on Park at Franklin for a "2 bedroom" (really a 1 bedroom with a large living room and a small study/office) but it's good size. not fancy with an elevator and all that, though...
I agree with Cool the Kid. -

no, I just used Craigslist. It's not the best building but I love the location and the size is great.

If this is turning into a who-do-you-like for realtors thread?
I've been ENORMOUSLY happy with Affordable Housing, at Empire & Kingston (ish). Always considerate, flexible, & not out to fleece you.
And they have really great property. Really. 718-636-RENT. No I don't work for them, they're just my landlord.
For instance, what you're looking for, law4715? I remember they had a top floor full 1-bed with a huge living room and huger kitchen for $1100 at Rogers and Montgomery, back in January, when we were looking.
Fee, yes. but still. -
That looks like a reasonable price. Try checking out craigslist or www.apartacus.com

insomnia11,
It's perfectly allowed here for you as a representative of a local company to respond in an on-topic manner to a thread here, disclosing up front that you work for the site you linked above (after throwing in the non-linked, obvious craigslist red herring).
I am looking now and I see several of your other posts of that site link elsewhere on the web (other forums and/or community sites).
Just be honest, lose the subterfuge.
And wait a minute...your site just scrapes listings from craigslist, compares rents and slaps on a Google Map, right?
Basically a clone of http://rentometer.com 's site? -
I haven't moved in yet, actually I haven't even signed the lease yet, but I found my place on http://www.nakedapartments.com/. They have no-fee and fee apartments. I was looking for the former, but fell in love at first sight with an apartment with a fee. Up side is that my broker has been really, really amazing and helpful so far. I'll have to see if that impression remains after I move in.
I second avoiding Rapid Realty. I contacted them to look at a few no-fee apartments in PLG within a very narrow price range. I met the broker and he kept suggesting FEE apartments ABOVE my price range, and then showed me exactly one apartment (for a fee, even though the sign on the side of the building clearly said NO FEE!!). Mind you, I made the hike from deep in Jersey on a Saturday and all he could show me was one apartment of the five I was expecting because he apparently didn't confirm with the supers at the other properties and they weren't available.
I then tried to work with another RR agent who also lacked basic reading comprehension skills (RR has you fill out a profile online and you can select the apts you're interested in) and then went off on me after several phone calls and texts back and forth when I asked what he had to show me because I didn't want to want to waste my time again.
AVOID.
Howdy, Stranger!
