Dog fighting in Prospect Park, — Brooklynian

Dog fighting in Prospect Park,

Comments

  • yes yes, pit bulls tied to trees = dog fighting!

    people know a lot!
  • So....

What does a chicken tied to fern tied to one legged Russian equal?

Because that's exactly what I saw over on Carroll Street the other day.
  • I used to watch a lot of the animal rescue shows, and this is one of the ways the disgusting owners use to train dogs for fighting
  • Dog fighting should be illegal... it's gross.
  • The info in the actual Fido mailing, from what I remember, made it sound like it could have been people training guard/attack dogs (for attacking people, not dogs). I am not a fan of this or the training technique but I have seen some groups of guys (with very well-cared for pits and other big breeds) using the German (?) training where they get the dogs all worked up. I can't remember the name of this style of training, but I can easily see someone mistaking these guys for a fighting group.

Either way, not cool. I frequent the remote areas with my dog so I'll be keeping an eye out for this, though.
  • it's called "scheutzland" or something like that. it's legitimate. and so is training your dog to be a guard dog or attack dog.

unfortunately, pit bulls are not guard dogs or attack dogs (attacking people), so if that's what these people are doing, they are idiots.

just a note: just because you see people doing things that are useful for training dogs to fight does NOT mean that these people are fighting their dogs. a ton of things useful for training fighting dogs are also useful for exercising normal dogs.
  • The article reads like a stretch, but anyone owning a dog physically capable of killing a grown person should be subject to a mental health test every six months.

    Beagles all day.
