Dentist Abroad

Has anyone traveled abroad and had a good experience with a dentist? I hear that the cost of dental care much less in foreign countries. I would be reluctant to go to a dentist unless I checked out his/her credentials and had references.

I lived in Israel eons ago and saw a dentist there...I finally understood why Israelis had such bad teeth. Of course, this was a long ago - things may have changed...and I can't speak about other countries.

A lot of Americans used to go to border towns near Mexico where prices are much cheaper (and where most of the dentists are U.S. trained). Thanks to all the border violence this now seems like a pretty iffy way to save some bucks.

i lived in france for awhile and actually found a pretty good dentist. of course, she insisted that i only needed to come once a year and was rather impressed with the fact that i flossed...but she came recommended from some colleagues who had pretty good teeth...and the dentist's teeth looked ok as well. if you need a dentist and you're abroad, what else can you do?

OR, are you thinking about dental tourism? if so, i kid you not when i say hungary - apparently, they are known for their dentists and teeth, and many europeans go there for just that...and the baths are quite nice as well.

I think you'd need to be getting a lot of work done for it to be worth the cost of going to Europe for dental work unless you get a super cheap airfare and find a cheap dentist that is exceptionally good. The Euro is still way stronger than the dollar. I haven't found my Manhattan dentist to be outrageoulsy expensive, and I've had a couple of crowns, I also went to an endodontist for a root canal - that was $2500 but I was in so much pain I would have paid almost anything for relief.
