Brooklyn Back When - Open Thread

I did not grow up with anyone that posts. This Memorial Day weekend gives me the opportunity to share with you my experience in the Military. I received my Draft notice in December 1956 along with my Christmas cards. It was a message from President Eisenhower that began with "Greetings from the President of the United States".. A month later I was on a bus headed for Fort Dix NJ. Low and behold on the first night in Ft Dix I had a visitor. Guess where he came from. Bay Ridge Brooklyn. I spent two months in Ft Benning GA. And then the rest of my two years in Ft Knox KY. Must have done a good job. The Gold is still there!!! I have never regretted giving two years to my Country. I was lucky enough that I never saw combat. Sometimes I think that the worst thing they did was eliminate the draft. I learned how to live with people from all walks of life. I learned how to fire a rifle and thank God I only used it on the firing range. I learned how to drive a Tank. I learned how to grow up fast. I salute all those in the Armed Forces today and revere the Memory of those who gave their lives in the defense of this country. I am proud to be a veteran and a citizen of the best country in the world. Sure we have faults. Show me a country that has nothing to be second guessed about. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
