  • Well I got started on talking about my Army days. If AMC and TMC can run war pictures all weekend, I can share some Army stories with you. #1 How to stand by your buddy... While in Basic training in Ft Benning, a Catholic Holy day came around. Do not remember which one but my closest buddy in my outfit (we went through High School together, MANUAL NOT John Jay) was a devout Catholic. he wanted to go to mass. He was scheduled to pull targets on a rifle range that men walked through and shot at pop up targets. I (being Protestant) would not be attending any services on that day, went to our Sargent and asked if I could pull targets in Louis Fiorello's place and told him why. Sgt. said he just needed a body and the switch was fine with him. I hustled out to the range and took my assigned spot at one of the targets. The first soldier through hit the pop up target square and it busted in a million pieces. I called the range officer on a walkie talkie and told him the target was beyond repair. He told me that I could not leave the post because he could not stop the queue set up to shoot. I went to sleep (in the service you learn to sleep anywhere anytime.) and slept all morning. That was my payback for doing my Buddy a favor. I have some more stories from the service but if you folks find them boring, just say so and I will cut myself off without saying suffering succatash :?

I'm glad you had a good time last night. I told Anna Marie to call
you today. She goes to the doctor we were talking about. I
hope you feel a little better today and try to take it a little easy today.
Mike is there to help you, don't try to do it all yourself. Love you....
