Sorry Helen, The closest I can come is a family named Mulverhill (sp) who lived in 310-312 12th St. It is an apartment house. Quite frankly I only remember the name and not the people with that name. My family lived in that apartment house when I was born and when I was about 8 or 9 moved up the block to our house at 320-12th St. I was there until 1960 when I got married and moved to NJ. 8) -

Ah yes. The Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. This is when I used to have my barbeque in Bergenfield NJ. Started the first year with about a dozen family and neighbors. The last few we had over 40 people in attendance. We had rain and cool weather so many times I had a guest call up one year when it was sunny & warm and he aked if the party was called off because of good weather! We never canceled. Had a few of them in doors but never canceled. On Monday we would have a few neighbors and family over and we would feast on the left overs. Only had the cops show up one year. Some disgruntled neighbor who did not get invited called and said we were making too much noise. It was only 8:30 in the evening. The cops were good natured about it but they said that the ordinance required that we be a little quiter after 9pm. We invited them to come back after they got off duty but they thanked us and said they wanted to get home to family celebrations. I often wondered if anybody showed up for the party in Bergenfield after we moved to Florida???? :?

I just reurned from a very moving event that is held every Memorial Day in our Main Clubhouse. There were about 850 people in our auditorium. It included dignitaries from the Armed Forces as well as Office Holders in political positions as well as organizations. They included the American Legion, VFW, Lions, Rotary, Churches, other Veterans groups etc;. Our Main speaker was a Colonel from the U.S. Army who was introduced by his Father, a retired Army Colonel. The Father lives here in Sun City Center. The names of every person in Sun City Center, , (especially Veterans) who passed away since last Memorial day were read out and honored(there were 169 names) with a member of an organizarion standing with a flag. At the end of the reading a bell was tolled for each of the Armed Forces. This program is not a show. It is very reverent and is dedicated to service men and women who gave their lives in our defense.
I have fond memories of the Memorial Day parade in Brooklyn. We would go up to Grand Army Plaza and watch the marchers & riders go through the Arch. Believe it or not, when I was a kid I saw Veterans of WW1, WW2, The Spanish American war and a couple from the Civil War. I read in the paper yesterday that their is only one living veteran known from WW1. Memorial Day afternoon we would go to the Stenick VFW Post on 13th St and they had a big post parade party. The kids were sent to the back yard and were given Ice Cream & Soda. Tomorrow morning when you wake up and do not see a soldier outside your door with a gun, preventing you from going where you want to go, when you go to Church or Temple this weekend, thank God you live in a country where you are free to go about and worship as you please. And thank God for the Men & Women who gave there lives or Limbs to protect those rights. God Bless America :sunny: -
