  • a little odd (tasteless? ) that this is a new place and the first photo on the website is a picture of lower manhattan with the twin towers?

    yowza.
  • Oh man, yeah- why so much Twin Towers? They show up a couple times on the site.

I can tell you right off the bat that this isn't a place I'd have much interest in going to. And I've been waiting for something cool on this corner for a while. Shame.
  • What was with those pictures and the Twin Towers.
If it was meant to be something positive it just didn't work.
The sky line of NYC is forever changed.
When I see shots like that all I see is the collapse of the building and death.
  • that is a total web design FAIL.

I, too, feel that the Towers don't belong there at all. This isn't Manhattan, the images make a lot of people sad or angry (and probably a lot of other feelings too) and have nothing to do with the place (as far as I can tell).

Plus, I hate any site that has the music ON as a default so that I have to search to figure out how to turn it off. They aren't musicians! This is not an advertisement for their music. I don't understand why people think that people want to hear music when they go to a website - plus, it is extra annoying when you do it at work because then everybody knows you're just surfing the net instead of doing what you are supposed to do.
  • These web designers obviously have nothing to do with New York City, and the owners of this lounge/wtf obviously have nothing to do with this neighborhood.
  • Oh man! That is an awful website!! Menu link doesn't work. And yes, the twin towers thing is pretty bad. Plus I could care less of pics of manhattan for a place in BROOKLYN that I'm going to pay to eat at. Gives you the impression that they really want to be located in Manhattan, not here.

But I got a huge giggle off the pic of Yummy Taco with the bus traffic on their site. Yeah, like that's a big endorsement?

  • If there were websites in the '80s, this is what one would look like.
  • "Mama Prime 6" : Anthony, You better let your sister design your website. She spent 3 semesters at Kingsborough studying web design. Remember that your father and I are investors in your restaurants.

"Anthony Prime 6 Owner": Yes, mom.
  • Are we talking about that place on 5th avenue by 8st?
  • Oops....that's Hollywood Video.

I hope they open an apple store there..........its been vacant for ages

    That would be awesome!
  • This thread is not about what potentially is going into the Hollywood Video space. It's about what we know is apparantly going into the Royal Video space. Let's keep it that way.

I agree that everything, from logo to use to just overall cheapassness, just does not go with the area. It is sadly, however, what you may begin to see closer to the arena area as time moves on and actually reminds me a bit of the old JRG Fashion Cafe.

This is just flashy, loud, and garish, and its sad when so much more could be done with the empty storefronts which line that part of Flatbush.
  • you can send them a message through their website.

since it says it's not opening till august or september, perhaps if people write them to give ideas on how to better cater to the neighborhood, it might do some good.

as it stands now, i don't see a place like this lasting and i like to be optimistic about nearly most new places. this one is bordering on offensive with the twin tower stuff.

but it's a shame all around because i heard the landlord there has been holding out for some obscene amount of money since royal video closed.

i can't picture how it will be 2 levels as the website describes....was royal video 2 stories??
  • It's nice to know that this place sucks and won't be open long. It saves me from, I don't know.... giving it a try, or at least asking people who have been there if it is any good.
  • or you could act as though this is a neighborhood bulletin board and not the food section of the nytimes and make up your mind what you want to do about visiting or not visiting the place despite what a few people think.
  • belzjm wrote: or you could act as though this is a neighborhood bulletin board and not the food section of the nytimes and make up your mind what you want to do about visiting or not visiting the place despite what a few people think.
Or, you can treat this board as a Bible. The Truth.....

The fact remain that the only reason to even have an internet connection is this message board. All matters of inquiry can be satisfied completely and accurately on this board. This board never wavers, stray, or misleads. The phrase "you can take it to the bank" does not even begin to describe the level of certainty that this board achieves everyday, every post.

    Well said.
  • I don't think this place is even going to try to cater to locals, though. It's going to try to cater to party promoters and the sort, and ride that wave until the arena opens. Reminds me of what they were going for with the rooftop bar at Le Vue, which had nothing to do with locals either. That, two blocks from prime North Slope, is ridiculous. Sorry.

I understand the "try before you talk" sentiment, but places that start with websites and pictures like that usually do not follow it up with thoughtful and worthy food. The few times they do (Merkato 55 with Marcus Samuelsson comes to mind....sort of......), that chef finds himself out of there rather quickly.
  • Yeah this place looks like another game changer, just like Le Vue.

"Everything that you thought was, now isn’t. Everything that you wish could have been, has now become"
  • do we know who the investors/owners are? do they own anything else? that might be a good indication of what this place will be about...
  • sloper wrote: do we know who the investors/owners are? do they own anything else? that might be a good indication of what this place will be about...
Screw that..... let's just hate on it. Why wait to judge a restaurant on its food when we can save time, money and calories by judging it by its wwwebsite? The place is definitely going to suck. Those pictures of NYC sucks. I refuse to eat anywhere that doesn't have a kick-ass website well before their opening.

This place is ruining the internet. I call for a preemptive boycott.
  • the url is registered to someone named ian smart. google says that could possibly be a former pro football player who was raised on long island, but who knows.
  • I hate, hate, HATE to agree with anything posted by Drunken Revival. I hate to even post on any thread sullied by his or her trackmarks.

But in this case, he kinda speaks truth... some of us are growing a bit hysterical in anticipation that this new restaurant may not fit into the nabe.

Who cares? If it is no better than its website, it'll quickly close, and some other dreamers will invest their time and money into trying to make their own dreams come true. Eventually someone's dream will resonate with the tastes of the neighborhood, and that place will last a while.

So I guess the moral of the story is: yeah we can make fun, but if it is good it will stay and prosper.. if not? It will go the way of that poor cursed corner where Playa... the BBQ joint... That other place was... damn so many places on that corner and all soon forgotten...
  • for people who lives in park slope, some of you sounds really ignorant. There's so many businesses going out of business, why hate on someone who's trying to do something and make a diifrence? Instead of hating give the owners your advice on what they can do to help our neighborhood.

  • They can have pics of people clubbing baby seals for all I care - as long as the food is good and cheap!

    Sullied? By trackmarks? Cool.

I try... it's just that some people don't always like what I say... and (gasp) the way I say it.

What if the place is nice and the food is good as well. Then what. Are we gonna say we dont like their choice in windows. This is sad. The proof is in the pudding.
