Anyone missing a green parrot?**RE-UNITED with OWNER**!

There is a green parrot with a silver ring around it's right leg. Looks like it belongs to someone. It's chilling on my window cill and doesn't seem to be bothered by my cat which is starring it down,

  • I'm on 13th near 7th. Silver ring is on the left leg actually.
  • Any chance they band some of the monk parakeets in the area? They are green and rather large, but wild and there are lots of them in Brooklyn, esp. Greenwood.
  • He seems to be wild, but I thought it was strange because of the band he has.
  • Yes! I just looked up Monk Parakeet and that is exactly what it is.
  • According to wikipedia there was an accidental release of the birds in Green-Wood cemetery decades ago which explains the bird's presence.

Amazing what you can find on the internet.
  • there are a TON of them at the cemetery! big nests in the entrance gate. i've seen them in different parts of park slope and sunset park area and find it really cool that they've managed to not only live, but flourish and procreate!
  • The parrot is still sitting on my window sill. He was there all night. Should I do something? It's almost as if he wants to come in...
  • He's probably been tagged by an org tracking them - there are several who do. Doesn't mean he's "spoken for" necessarily, but he probably wouldn't respond well to captivity. I'd leave some seed for him on the sill.
  • There are signs all along 13th between 8th ave and PPW about a missing Quaker Parrot - looks like you've found him. Signs have two phone numbers to call, sorry I didn't jot it down.
  • Bird reunited!

My neighbor saw those signs as well and the bird made it down to his apartment this morning. The owner came over and took the bird. All is well!

Still can't believe a pet owner could find a bird. Seems impossible.
