Gyms in Crown Heights — Brooklynian

Gyms in Crown Heights

I'll be moving into the neighborhood soon and would like to know if there are any gyms within the area and what their membership fees/facilities are like.
I know about the Bed-Stuy and Park Slope YMCA's, but I wanted to see if I had some other options. Thanks!

  • where in crown heights? the gym at utica and winthrop is moving to utica and eastern parkway right at the 3/4 trains.
  • St. Johns Rec Center is in Crown Heights, and a $70 annual membership gives you admission to all of the NYC Parks facilities.
  • I go to planet fitness on duffield st. Its about 10 minutes away on the 2/3 train off of hoyt st. Cant beat $10 a month and no contract..
  • FWIW I like the Bed Stuy Y better than my new NYSC gym. Newer equipment, cooler people and more of a community feel. I made a few friends there.

I would definitely second this suggestion. I know of a guy who used to drive over to the Rec center from Park Slope to use their pool. IN addition to the Olympic pool, there is a full-size indoor basketball court, a work out room with tons of machines, a cardio-fitness room, a computer room and a dance room.
All of an annual price that is more like the monthly price of the Y, and forget about the private gyms. St. Johns Rec is run by the Parks Dept.
  • There's also the fitness studio, Resurgent Fitness, on Sterling at Nostrand: http://www.resurgentfitness.com/Home_Page.php
