Miracle on 7th

My girlfriend and I have been to Miracle Grill in PS several times, it's about a 5 minute walk from our apartment on PPW. We like the food, and the outdoor seating is great.

On the 4th of July, we were there having a late lunch, long story short, our waitress dropped a ramekin filled with catsup onto the floor next to our table, and we were both covered. We wear wearing white linen pants. It was messy.

The owner, however, proved to be the real miracle worker. He rushed us some club soda, lots of napkins and comp'ed our meal (obviously). He also said we should bring him the dry cleaning bills.

Fast forward to last week, I brought in the cleaning bills (11 bucks) and he asked how everything turned out. Our shirts were fine, so were her pants, mine still had some faint spots, but they were older pants and I did not think he needed to replace them or anything, they already did all they could and were very apologetic.
The owner said he was really sorry about the whole thing and as he was giving me the money for the dry cleaning, he also gave me a gift cert for dinner for two, plus cocktails.

Anyway, just wanted to send a shout out to that particular local business owner. He was really cool about something that could have really been a bitch of a situation. We'll keep going back with service/ownership like that. Nice job!

  • That's fantastic. I don't know many places that would provide more than an apology. They provided you two with very good service and I will definitely give them my business.
  • That's a great story.

Sadly, my one and only experience there was a disaster (service-wise - the food was good).

We couldn't get menus, couldn't get water, our meals came out in random order so that some of us had food and others didn't, our waitress was a flat-out biatch.

All of this on an afternoon when it wasn't crowded.

Turned me off from going back. That said, I like the way the owner handled your situation and may give them another shot.

Good to hear. My husband and I have brunch there a lot on Sunday's and the food is always very good. Took some family from out of state for dinner and they also loved it.

  • I love their food but like Flexi, the 2x I've been there, the service has been rough.
  • Where is Miracle Grill? Unfortunately, I'm not really familiar with too many restaurants in PS, even though I live there. Usually eating out isn't in my budget. How are the prices?
  • It's nice to hear GOOD NEWS! Customer service is everything. Treating people the way you want to be treated truly pays off. I have only been to Miracle Grill (now closed?) in Manhattan and after hearing this happy story will be sure to check out the Park Slope location. The owner sounds like a swell guy! I certainly prefer spending money at places that provide such excellent customer service.

222 7th ave around 2nd or 3rd street. Right on the corner, across from Sette. Prices are ok, more of a place to eat out on occasion, unless you're like me and you eat out almost every night and wonder where all your money (if there's any left over from rent that is) goes...

I totally agree. Far too many business owners forget that the customer will/will not come back, based largely on the service (assuming the food is decent, which it is at Miracle). The owner basically paid for two of our meals plus the dry cleaning, but we'll go back there dozens of times if not more!
  • Big fan of Miracle. Fine food and service.

It's not exactly the same situation, but it reminds me of the post from the woman who got scolded at the cafe for bringing her 4-year-old for an urgent bathroom break without buying anything. Treat someone decently--even more decently than you have to--and it pays many times over.

What the Miracle Grill manager did was not just the right thing, it showed confidence in his restaurant--that it was good enough that you'd come back for more meals even after the ones you had comped. Too many business owners act like the dollar they earn from a customer today is the only one they will ever be lucky enough to make from them.
  • ... and now look at all the free publicity he's getting. :)

Thanks! The owner may never know about it, but at least a lot of your readers now will :-)
  • when something similar happened to me at peter luger, they offered nothing of the sort. asses.

never was a huge fan of miracle grill's food but i do like their 'tude.

The person who referred to the bad service up top--I bet that the waitress was the blonde woman I used to see there. One tall glass of surly! Just the worst. BUT I haven't seen her there in months--and instead I constantly see two staffers who are just the best. Man and a woman. My one and only complaint about Miracle is that I would be much more of a repeat customer if they changed up their menu and/or brought out specials. Food always good, but it's the same food. It's at 3rd and 7th Ave by the way.
  • I've been there a few times, and the only bad service I got was when we sat at the bar tables. We were there for brunch, and the rest of the place was packed, so we sat there. I don't think the bartender knew what to do, lol.

    The food was great though.
